Hilton HHonors - Hilton Hotels around the old route 66?
This summer me and my family will drive the old route66 from Chicago to the West Coast. Since I am a member of Hhonors I would prefer to stay at Hilton properties on our way to the coast. Is there any good priced(cheap) Hilton properties along the way?

Hey Kempis, sounds like a fun trip. Speaking of fun, don't forget the "Penis of the Prarie" (hope its OK to say that - log onto the website and you'll see what I mean. It towers at least 25 stories over every other edifice, except for the capital buiding), the good old Springfield Hilton, in Springfield, Illinois. As an employee of the State of Illinois, I owe free nights in Paris, Strasbourg and Cannes, France to that hotel. There is also a Hampton Inn right off I55 in Springfield. Have a great trip!!

kempis, many of the 447,000 miles (= approx 724,140 kms) on our '86 Voyager were made on that route (from St. Louis where we join it on, anyway). Hampton Inns will be lots of places for cheap Hilton credit. I believe there is a lot of info on Rt. 66. Some towns on the old road make a specialty of it (in OK and NM especially). In many other places, the old route is now the Interstate.
How long you have for the drive will obviously dictate where you stop, etc. It'll be about 36 hours of 65mph driving time to LA, for planning purposes. Now add time for eating, sleeping, gassing up, and sightseeing.
Please feel free to e-mail LexPassenger and me with questions, too.

Our trip will start on the 2nd of July and end up in the west coast on the 14th of July. Our first stop will most likely be Springfield and my next mission is to persuade my dad that we should stay at Hampton Inn for the first night http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Hey kempis,
You'll find ABQ on Rt. 66 about midway thru your trip. Here you'll find Hilton's and Hampton's too. And, 'shi-shi' Santa Fe is just around the corner.
I know of a little factory that churns out a blue denim jacket with Rt. 66 tapestry panels on the front and back. They are very unusual and way, way too cool. Quite masculine, but women like them too.
They are prized posessions in Europe!
If you'll e-mail me your size, I'll have one waiting for you!
Just a welcome from 'The Land of Enchantment!' http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Kempis, if you stop in Springfield, you may want to do some of the Lincoln sites. I have no idea how much interest you may have in US history, but Abraham Lincoln's home is there and worth a visit. Its on a street where they have attempted to keep all of the homes as they were in the 1860's. There is also a Frank Lloyd Wright house there.
