Hilton HHonors - GOLD Benefits on Award Stay?

Question for the experts:
I stayed at a Doubletree this past week on a HHonors award stay.
I was told that I was not entitled to any benefits since it was an award stay.
Is this true? Any other experiences?
Just wondering.

No, it's not true. This issue has been discussed many times in this forum. The benefits are supposed to be based solely on your status, not on the type of stay (revenue vs award) or rate. I believe that Adam has confirmed that as well.

We are going to use our first ALON in December at the Jerusalem Hilton. Will we have a shot at an upgraded room and executive lounge even though we're staying on an award?
I think the answer is YES.
When my friend stayed at Hilton AMS, they upgraded him to Exe.
Have a good vacation at there!!

Used ALON award in April and was upgraded to Junior Suite, but my status was Diamond, not Gold. Hope you are successful.

Got this answered by the Hilton guru himself (Adam Burke)... His reply was:
"As a Gold VIP, you're entitled to the same upgrade benefits on both paid and reward stays. Particularly when you've redeemed points for an HHonors reward, we want to recognize your loyalty and thank you for your continued business!"
Of course you may not get it, but you are entitled to it if the rooms are available.

Was just at the Hilton on the Big Island using ALON - and was upgraded to Executive tower at check-in. It included access to the Executive Lounge which offers continental breakfast, afternoon cookies and coffee, and early evening snacks (things like salads, sandwiches, etc).
Upgrades are solely based on availability - as is the case whether using an award or paying for the room.
Good Luck

A related question. On award stays, do you earn points for the incidentals and room charges? Due to the design of the double dip, I assume there is no way to earn airline
miles too.
I'm just trying to figure out if there is some way to use all the upcoming award stays toward the AA 20K bonus. Thanks!

You're supposed to, yes. I have. It helps if you put them on your Hilton Platinum card. As to airline miles, I have never earned them on award stays.

I know the answer is yes from Adam Burke, but on two occasions, I have not received the benefits... and in fact, was actually told once that award stays do not qualify for any gold benefits.
GO FIGURE!

I asked this same question of HHonors. The reply I got can be found in the following thread:

On a reward stay at the Pointe Hilton Sqwaw Peak Resort we were upgraded to a casita without asking. I asked later in our stay what their policy was and they said that all Golds were automatically upgraded based on availability. She added that had we stayed in late March instead of late April all the casitas were full. By the way, a casita is a two story duplex with its own carport and sundeck.
