...Wonder what changed.

Amazon has started to charge sales tax in CA and possibly other states on all purchases due to a recent state legislature. They no longer have the "edge" in one of the biggest markets.

USAir says no restrictions. Though, I too I wonder if it works for buying gift cards and/or spending gift cards. If it works for both....

Being Amazon affiliate I can say yes. Amazon pays commission both when giftcards are purchased and when they are used. Whether USAir pays to the user in both cases I don't know, but I don't see why not.

It does say no restrictions. So it seems one can get 2 miles for each $ at amazon. One for buying a gift card and one for spending the gift card. (Apparently can't buy gift cards with gift cards, otherwise this would be quite a loop...)

Given that it's been here 5 days, the first question I have is has anyone gotten miles for amazon at all - and then after that if there is a way to double them.

About time!! I really wish AA, DL, and B6 would get them too. Or ebates...but that would be too good to be true. Zappos used to be in the shopping portals, but they no longer participate...maybe since it's now an Amazon company? I guess they can't justify it being so competitive on pricing, shipping, and (usually) tax. On another note, buy.com is an a lot of the programs, usually with similar pricing and product selections as Amazon. I will use them when possible to rack up some miles...so there's an option for some FTers too. However, most of my purchases are Amazon just due to the overwhelmingly good prices and selection, so I try to use my loyalty to them as an advantage to leverage pull with any customer service issues that arise.

I used to go to Amazon through a portal that donated a small percentage of each purchase to a charity of my choice. It was nice to be rewarded in giving back, but even that program has sadly been discontinued very recently:

I'm not sure who is and isn't reading the news, but this random article:

I have started getting the miles posted for purchases with the gift cards, but my $2K in gift cards have not posted, so I am wondering if they do not count. I did not see anything in the terms excluding them. I would even be happy if they posted in Hawaiian and then could be used for credit on US Air for 1 mile per $.

But who are you going to sell the gift card to???
Especially since you will want cash.

Plus there is huge risk involved in selling them.

The one last thing is not finally you can earn miles. But they brought back the ability to earn miles through amazon. (Years ago amazon stopped this but now looks like they brought it back)

This is superb news for many, but there's one good reason not to use it: If you have access to an Associates account where commissions will be passed back to you without violating the TOS (or at least not in a manner putting you at risk). For example, if you own a business that has an Associates account used for web properties, or a friend with the same who is willing to pass commissions back to you. In these circumstances, you can get 4% - 10% back readily, vastly trumping the value of the miles.

CA tried to tax Amazon by claiming that their affiliates in CA would qualify as their presence in CA and they should collect taxes. Amazon responded with closing down all the CA affiliate programs, therefore ending their so-called presence and they do not have to collect taxes anymore.

I'm not sure about Hawaiian Airlines, but on USAirways.Skymall, their FAQ said:

When will my miles be posted to my account?

Miles will be posted within 8-10 weeks from the date your product is SHIPPED from the merchant. If you do not see the miles in your Dividend Miles account within 8 weeks, please contact the Mall Support Team. Please note that we cannot research orders that are more than 6 months old.

that latter is what concerns me. I do a lot of cashback shopping and I am pretty certain I am all good with cookies etc. 1 month is kind of long for a cashback to credit and we are talking about 3-4 separate orders.

A 4-week delay wouldn't be unusual, nor would be 6-8 weeks, especially if the T&Cs warn you to expect that sort of posting window. I suggest waiting until the posting window has passed, and if you are missing miles, simply email them your order details placed via their mall and they should research and credit you. Hopefully won't be needed, but usually reliable if it is.

I *THINK* I might have figured out the problem ...

It appears that Amazon will not report the purchase back to HawaiianAir if you merely link through to Amazon and then purchase items that are already in your Amazon basket/cart.

To get the 2-mile-per-dollar credit, you must first empty your Amazon cart (if necessary), link through to Amazon from HawaiianAirMiles shopping portal, and then place items in your basket directly from that link and complete your purchase.

(FYI: I do a lot of internet shopping and use quite a few different shopping rebate sites. This is the first time I've ever had a problem with a merchant refusing to issue credit for a purchase simply because the items were not added into my shopping basket after I navigate through the rebate site.)

Could be, but as the Amazon Associates program isn't reliant upon that requirement, I would be surprised. In other words, Amazon will still report credit for items placed in the cart before the qualifying session, so I don't see how the airline could be excluding them.

I personally do lots of cash back shopping online. And with Hawaiian Shopping I've only received 229 miles from over $2K worth of amazon spending (multiple transactions.

Until United does offer something like this, why not collect US Airways or Hawaiian Airlines miles? If he spends $10k/month, that's $10k miles each month!!! You could either book a Star Alliance award or use points.com to transfer them into something you could use.

Perhaps someone more savvy than I can respond as to the whys and wherefores of approval for both. Don't want to hijack the thread. I didn't do anything special. I applied in a straightforward manner, just as with any application. When I didn't get instant online approval for BofA, I called the app number and a rep assisted with taking more needed info. Then I got the dreaded "more review" decision. About a week later I got a phonecall from their card services go-between; repeated the exercise, and got approved. For the Bank of HI app, I only did the online app, on the same day as I applied w/BofA. Then, it played out same way where they followed up with a call to me seeking added info. Got approved with the HI residency requirement absent from the discussion. Frankly, I just gambled on it as the extra pull on my credit wasn't a biggie for me. Best I can figure is Bank of HI isn't very strict about their suggested HI resident preference. Hope you get the results you desire.

I do not believe amazon.com gift cards count. There is an exclusion clause on the page for terms and conditions.... In addition Freecause, the company that runs it, makes mention that gift cards may be excluded.

What I find interesting is that there is no true point of contact for missing orders. In most airline shopping malls there is a form to fill out for missing orders. In most credit card shopping malls their customer service department will handle research.

The terms basically state that you need to go to the merchant to get the miles...which makes no sense what-so-ever! Especially someone like Amazon.

I use a lot of shopping malls but I am only using HA for amazon orders since I am planning a trip to Hawaii...

Gift cards count in the Amazon Associates program, and as any third party is passing through that, it should count for the miles they distribute as well. Regardless, the best way to kill this goose is to complain to Amazon. I suggest not doing that in any circumstance. If you must take it up with someone, do it with FreeCause.

Also, as I noted earlier, if you have access to an Associates account via a friend, etc., you can earn several % back on Amazon orders rather than a mile or two. That's the better route is you have access to it.

I noticed last night when making an Amazon purchase through the US Airways shopping portal that the yield was down from 1/$ to 0.5/$. As a result, I thought I would go through Hawaiian Airlines instead since they were offering 2/$. Hawaiian had also cut their yield in half to 1/$. Maybe I'm the last to notice this, but I thought I would mention it in case someone else had missed it.

It's still nice to get miles for shopping at Amazon, but it was better when it was twice as many :)

Re-tooled? Naw, their site just caught the new "Bank of America - We have a right to make a profit" virus. Per my antivirus vendor, the solution is to install the French "Stop Banque" antivirus software marketed by OccupyWallSt.org. After the software sniffs a vendor fee increase or offer devaluation it raises an alarm and attempts to coordinate an exit to further relationships with the dastard vendor.:p

Ahhh, so it's true. The end of the world is upon us. Have you told the Bilderbergers about your software? Could there be a RestoreBanque anti to their anti, coded in French, of course.

Same here. Cartera isn't up to the task. The US Sky Mall posted quickly and I had never had to claim a missing purchase.

Or it could be that their prices are so competitive that margins are low and they don't have the same wiggle-room as retailers with twice the margins. A quick look at their sales growth doesn't indicate they are doing anything wrong

Note, however, that you can get a modest 5% or so cash back on all Amazon purchases if you or someone you know has an Associates account and you go about it the right way.

2011 – Amazon has until July 31, 2012 to lobby Congress for a federal solution. Until then, it doesn't have to collect sales tax in the Golden State.

I have Hawaiian miles and they do post Amazon purchases. I make sure I go through the miles search bar (you also get miles for this), and it pops up on Amazon that the miles are being earned.

I am about to buy $2000 worth of stuff on Amazon.com. I am trying to find the best way to earn points. As I know only Hawaiian miles program has Amazon.com. I currently don't have the Chase Freedom card for 5% cashback
I will have to buy those stuff this week so I can't apply for a new card.
Does anyone know any other ways to get points or cashback on Amazon
Thanks

Amazon has historically not provided generous bonuses/cash-backs/coupons incentives - which is very understandable as Amazon business model assumes you either like what this site is doing and buy regardless of rewards or you don't like it and extra 2-5% will not Amazon your business.

So Hawaiian is your best bet at the moment and use it while it's still there - I personally think it will disappear sometimes in 2012 (as did US Airways in 2011) as again it just doesn't fit Amazon's business model.

If you live in an area where supermarkets give rewards for purchases (I live in Northern NY and Price Chopper gives 10 cent gas rewards for each $50 purchased). The rewards are given for gift card purchases which include Amazon

The Amazon benefit on Chase Freedom IS part of the first quarter benefit for 2012. It's not a normal reward.

The Citi Forward card will give you 5 TYP/$ on purchases coded as "bookstore", which is most of the traditional Amazon shipments (i.e. not fulfilled by someone else or a used/marketplace purchase).

https://www.chasebonus.com/

This is the first time I recall when a specific merchant (Amazon) was listed rather than a category of merchants (discounters/online) though last quarter the promotional material was suggestive, "get 5% back at department stores, like Kohl's!" Chase does issue the Amazon cards so it is not a huge jump for them.

So far the only way I can find it is by googling it. It's somewhat unsettling that it won't show up on the partners directory nor will it show up when you search the Hawaiian site. What am I missing? I wonder if they dropped Amazon already?

It is there if you sign and to the shopping mall and then in the search field enter the word "amazon"....but I agree it is weird it is not listed as a merchant.

I downloaded the Hawaiian Airlines rewards bar. I was missing orders from December and realized I forgot to "click" the pop up to start earning when I went to the Amazon site. This month I have placing orders through Amazon...I have the bar installed and then I just "click" to earn and the green "earning" button lights up on the shopping bar. So far my January orders have earned miles.

Just be careful to "disable" the Hawaiian bar is you want to earn miles in a different program. For instance I wanted to get Ultimate Rewards miles from Chase in November from a merchant. I never got them even though I went through the Chase Ultimate Rewards mall. Later I see I got Hawaiian miles for them, so the shopping bar grabbed the order even though I went through the mall...

Go to www.hawaiianairlines.com
click on the Hawaiianmiles link at the top of the page
Click on Earn Hawaiian Miles when you shop or dine
Then click on Hawaiian Miles Emarket

I have Amazon listed as a favorite so that is listed at the top of the page.

I buy the gift cards at the Grocery (Sweetbay, but not at Publix) for the bonus points and then spend via Hawaiian.

Cheers!

I would be concerned. How are you linking to the site? are you signing in to your Hawaiian Miles account first, then going to Emarket, then clicking "buy now" to enter Amazon? Are you using the shopping mall toolbar bar that is downloaded? If you use the shopping mall bar at the top of your page, you have to go to Amazon then click the pop up bar that should show up on the top of your page. Then the "earning" light should turn green....it should remain green throughout your purchase.

If you have downloaded any other toolbars for United, American, US Airways then you need to totally disable them. Otherwise it might interfere with Hawaiian miles shopping mall.

I missed some orders in December because I forgot to click the pop up bar and it didn't change to "earning" on the shopping bar.

As far as tracking missing orders...good luck. I emailed Hawaiian Airlines customer service weeks ago about missing miles from Amazon purchases and have had no response back....

Several cash back sites have 3%+ in major categories, sometimes much higher when promotions are running. If you or someone you know has an Amazon Associates account, you can get 6%+ quite easily. Unless you value the heck out of your Hawaiian miles, those cash back options are much more appealing.

It was a targeted email from Citi (not Amazon or airline) with a personalized link enrolling my personal Citi AA Visa CC for the month of December at 10 AA miles / $ spent at Amazon. Previous targeted Citi promos I have received appear as bonus miles in monthly Citi statements. No Cartera here.

This is not my primary CC, so I'm not sure why I got the offer. Earlier in the year, I received an offer for 3x miles on payments on insurance policies (vice 1x). Citi seems to be throwing odd (yet appreciated) offers my way to see where I jump.

I assumed in my OP--incorrectly, it appears--that other people would have received this offer as well via HA and / or AA.
