Hilton HHonors - Diamond Vs Diamond VIP

I was Diamond VIP last year, but was unable to requalify this year. I realized my account now has changed from Diamond VIP to Diamond. What is the difference? Also, strangely I received a Silver Card from HH and a letter saying that I didn't make it to Diamond, so HH give me silver card, not sure if it is Silver VIP...?? I am really confused now!

There is no two levels Diamond and Diamond VIP. Diamond VIP is Hilton's topmost level.

Looks like you did not have enough stays and got downgraded to Silver this year.

But if you picked up the phone and asked nicely a month or so back they comped everyone from Forrest Gump downwards to Gold. What a bizarre logic. Platinums drop to silver and half of FT gets compled to Gold! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

sxchan .... nuts as it sounds, if you enroll in erewards you are auotmatically Gold anyway, by my reading of this: "As a member of e-Rewards, you will automatically be enrolled as a Gold VIP member in HHonors, entitling you to additional benefits designed to make your stays even more rewarding and enjoyable".

Strangely, I just went to HH web and my account still show as Diamond VIP. Is it effectively until end of April?? Start May 1, I will be sliver VIP. Am I right??

I received a letter saying my Diamond status would be good through April and received a Gold card good through next April. Don't know if I'll officially be downgraded May 1st. If I am I plan on calling and requesting a comp back to Diamond considering that everyone and their spouse will now be Gold.

I agree with you, mountain flyer. Now that everyone's Gold VIP, the status will mean "nothing" when staying at hotels... Diamond will probably be obtainable as a comp given that you've got a reasonable number of nights... Maybe it's time for that "Double Diamond" level, based on a high number of nights only? PS! Thanks all for the tips on comp cards - it was surprisingly easy to become Starwood Platinum once I documented my HH Diamond VIP status :-)
