this will avoid a 2 1/2 hour train ride at 6 AM to catch that flight.

the Sheraton hotel in the airport is too expensive for the few zzzzzzzz's.

Check the Germany forum, for example this recent thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/germany/1200102-reasonable-accomodation-fra-overnight.html). This thread will probably end up in that forum anyway. ;)

H R&R,

have a look to the NH Hotel at Frankfurt airport.

I have not stayed in this particular property but NH hotels are OK and normally have free wi-fi.

I have a reservation at the Steigenberger coming up. Very reasonably priced compared to the Sheraton. Looks nice enough.

Since it does not say, is the airport Steingenberger hotel the only hotel that does not serve a breakfast buffet with the room rate?

When do you want to travel and what is your budget?

Park Inn Frankfurt Airport has excellent rates (starting from 59 EUR). It is possible to either walk to T2 building (if you don't have large suitcases) or take their shuttle bus. With friends and family rate, you can get room +breakfast for 70 EUR.

I am not sure if it is open or not yet: Hilton is opening a property on the top of the airport railway station.

I always, well usually, stay at the Holiday Inn Morfelden (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g641998-d260621-Reviews-Holiday_Inn_Express_Frankfurt_Airport-Morfelden_Walldorf_Hesse.html//), when I have a morning flight out of FRA. Prices are quite reasonable.

If you cross the street and walk down the farm road there is a camp ground with perfectly acceptable restaurant. It's a nice 20 minute walk on the night before a long flight.

I last stayed there a year ago, I believe they charge 5 Euro for the airport shuttle.

This hotel will soon be joining the Hilton Worldwide Portfolio of Brands and is presently accepting reservations for arrival June 1, 2012 and beyond.

The Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn at the Squaire won't open until late this year.

The Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn. But they won't open until sometime in 2012. HGI is currently accepting bookings from 1st March 2012, though some people have reservations for December 2011. ;)

Perfectly adequate 3*hotel, prices starting at 49€ and the restaurant mentioned is actually rather good - try the Gnocci with Gorgonzola sauce:) - and it feels a bit like being in the country side too..

I have used the Steingenberger and found it very convenient. Regular shuttle service to/from FRA. I didn't get breakfast included with my room rate. There is a shop in a service station about 5mins walk from the hotel (not very glamorous I know) if you want to get some food/snacks to take back to your room.

When I stayed here I checked in and went up to my room to find it had not been made up yet. Back down to reception to get a new room and the same thing happened again!!!! I went to complain and asked for an upgraded room which I got with a sincere apology. The rooms in the new tower are far better than the standard ones so you might consider booking one of those if that is important to you.

Cheers, Lee.

Holy crap. Stay in the city, somewhere in the very centre around Hauptwache/Konstablerwache or around the central station. The S-Bahn takes you to the airport in 15 minutes. No need to bother with those so-called airport hotels out in the boonies where there is nothing to do in the evening and the air stinks of kerosene (the Sheraton is the only hotel that is actually at the airport, all others are at some distance). Those shuttles, including waiting for them, do not get you there faster than the commuter train from the city centre.

Good advice, at least from my own newbie perspective. Konstablerwarche is the 6th stop on the S8 line and it's just over 15mins as stated above.

Westin is set just one block back from the Zeil. It was seemingly the FIFA Womens World Cup 2011 media HQ. I was there yesterday. The Hilton seemed to be pretty close to the Zeil, too. I spotted a sign atop the hotel.

As stated, at least there's stuff to do in Frankfurt. Otherwise get access to a LH lounge. :D

This last Sunday night I stayed at the Ibis "Frankfurt Airport" in Kelsterbach.
It was 49euros a night. There was a breakfast buffet option for 10euros and it was a decently stocked buffet though I didn't eat there. I did not do breakfast as I was going to eat at the airline lounge for free^. I arrived FRA around 21:30 Sunday and had to be back the next morning at ~8:45ish for a 10:15 LH to IAH and it worked fine for me.

Shuttle bus to and from airport is free and makes one other stop in same town at Mercure (where I have also stayed before- more expensive and not worth the extra money in my view for a quick layover).

Rooms at Ibis are small/standard, but showers are nice, room was clean, sat tv with many, many channels if you need it. If I were travelling solo, I'd stay there again for a quick layover. There are two little restaurant bars, you can walk to from the hotel also, and it has a restaurant onsite.

If you don't have much time, stay close. If you have more layover time, then I'd echo what others say and try the city.

The Sheraton is expensive but if you can get it on a cash and points deal...not so bad. I would agree that if you dont stay at the Sheraton then staying somewhere in the city is not so bad as you have good access to the airport via the train and may be quicker than taking a shuttle in a lot of instances.

Not opening until early 2012 - and there will be 2 properties, a "regular" Hilton and a Hilton Garden Inn.

Commuting time from central Frankfurt to the airport in time for a 1120am flight will be no more than 20 minutes, so you can really stay anywhere in town. There are nice hotels in the Taunus around Frankfurt, but you won't do these justice if you stay for only one night.

Hello World,

I will be having a overnight stay in FRA in May, arrive around 17:00 and depart the next day noon. Did some searches in the forum..

I like the idea of staying in town instead of at the airport. Any one have any suggestions where I should stay?

Also I do plan to visit a restaurant for dinner call "Das Wirtshaus" (http://g.co/maps/6cka9)...

thanks.

Commute time to the airport might be only 20 minutes, when you get good connections with the train. :)
Then it could be an hour or two after the train arrives at airport to check in and Board depending on your luck. :(

Last July 29, I stayed at the Hotel Steigenberger at the airport, but it took me over two hours going back and forth between A and B Gates thanks to destructive construction of Gates with erroneous Gate Numbers on my Boarding Pass printed just before heading to the airport in the 5-10 minute Van ride! I do speak enough German to understand correct instructions.
NOT even the Airport Guides placed all over the airport could give me correct directions of any kind of where to go or what to do.
Hopefully those Lufthansa, United & Continental Gate changes have been completed and the signage correctly posted limiting any wasted time.

One of the trips required walking back to the 'Luggage Room" to check the luggage a block or so back from where I started from after getting off the train down below. No time was left for that leisurely visit to the Concierge Lounge, that I had planned by leaving the hotel room about 3 hours before!
GQQD planning turned into a nightmare.

I would stay at the airport and take a leisurely train ride to the city/restaurant for the evening without lugging the luggage to a hotel in the city, then lugging it back in the morning hoping to have enough time before Boarding! :D

You can also stay in Mainz or even Weisbaden and take the train to the airport. The Frankfurt main train station (hauptbahnhof) is huge and can be intimidating and a hassle with luggage.

With time to enjoy, the Schlosshotel at Taunus is lovely and very expensive, but you really need a rental car here. Allow lots of time to drive (and get lost) on secondary roads to the airport.

Arriving at 5 PM and Departing the next day at NOON does not leave much time at any hotel if you add more travel time on a train to & from the airport! Doesn't even leave enough time for a leisurely Dinner in the city unless you take time out of seeing/enjoying the Nice hotel and sleep time.
Obviously, I would not bother. In fact I had a nice Salmon Dinner at the Steigenberger Hotel and relaxed watching some TV before a good nights sleep before a Noon flight back to the US. :-::-:
