DiningBuzz! - Shake Shack vs In N Out

Shake Shack is clearly superior. I just tried it for the first time. Been to In N Out many times when I lived in San Francisco.

Shake Shack's burger was bigger and not well done. It had more of a grill-y flavor. The cheese was perfect consistency. The bun was a delicious egg bun.

Shake Shack's fries were crinkle cut and crispy but soft on the inside. They tasted like potato chips in fry form and had some kind of other seasoning.

Shake Shack's chocolate shake was yummy. I'd say SS shakes are about the same as In N Out, but I have only had an In N Out shake once, many years ago.

Also, Shake Shack sells booze. Score!

Also, look around for a story in the last couple days about Michelle Obama going to Shake Shack. The media is slamming her for eating a 1700 calorie lunch while she is doing her active lifestyle push for kids.

Part of the beauty of an active lifestyle is that it burns calories. During the Tour de France, riders consume between 6,000-9,000 calories per day (link (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=stein/090701) to a humorous story about this), yet none of them is remotely close to fat--serious contenders for the overall win are typically around 5% body fat.

agreed. dollar for dollar, it is tough to beat a double double animal style. but if value isn't as much of a concern, then the shackburger or shack stack takes the cake. maybe if in-n-out started to use the same greasy potato buns as shake shack...

Havent been to Shake Shack but you cant really go wrong with In&Out either.

I haven't been to the Shake Shack, other than at Citi Field, but their shakes have to be better than In N Out's, which are really bad. They have that pre-made artificial thickening agent consistency and flavor. Even McDonald's shakes are better. I do admit their burgers are very good, however. A good shake is mixed. It doesn't come out of a machine already made.

Shake Shack is delicious...I think it wins hands down for quality

Shack Shack is better but is also a different price point than In 'N Out. I like both but can't really have too much of the greasy stuff. :)

Don't forget, Shake Shake also has locations in Dubai & Kuwait City!

Hate to admit it as a So-Cal, but Shake Shack is better. Grew up eating In n Out so it still is the comfort food out of the two, but SS wins.

Wonder if they will make it to the West Coast before In makes it to the east. FWIW, Thomas Keller digs In n Out and will even serve it at staff functions.
