Hilton HHonors - All those points burning a whole in my pocket
So I've conquered the conquest. What now? I see I can get a week in Europe for almost half price as a VIP. Should I go ahead and get the award even though I don't know when I'll be able to use it? If I find a week that it is available and get the award, can I then cancel but keep the award for use later...perhaps when I am not gold?
I feel like a kid who just got a spike in his allowance!
I mean 'hole' not 'whole'. I wish could get the spellchecker to work for me.

I'm going to bring this one to the top one more time to see if there are any good ideas.
I've found it very handy to have a GLON coupon (100,000 points) around. If we have to take a trip to a very expensive hotel market, (San Francisco, Washington DC, etc...) there very helpful. The cert is good for one year and you don't need any notice to get the reservation if award space is available.
Sorry to be such a pain. Is it correct to say that I can request the award certificate even without reservations? I've only used points for hotel stays once before so I'm pretty uneducated on this.

That's correct. But given the fact that you can now claim most rewards online and print them instantly, I don't see any reason to have one sitting around.

How can you do this with Hilton???
I know that they have something in the works, but I have not been aware that you can do this yet!

Agree... I think you actually have to call them to get the certs.

I thought after Feb 15, you could do it all on-line too. Haven't tried it yet, tho.
BTW, D2B, less than three weeks to Paris and Strasbourg. I have printed out your trip report and stuck it in one of my guidebooks. Can't wait!

I haven't tried to online reward system after Feb 15th... But when I used it last Dec, I just submitted my request, and I got the cert in 6 days. That's quite efficient for me!! And, def. recommend to use GLON reward - we used it last July for 6 nights at Hilton Athens, and even got upgraded to the top floor - v nice view. Will plan to go back again in a few years!!

Just did one two weeks ago for my Hawaii stay. This online and print feature is great. Just wanted to let you all know that I have learned a lot from you folks and keep up the great communication.

Well since you have learned alot from us, perhaps you can enlighten me how you can check for award availability and secure the reservations. No one has answered this question, and I am quite interested, as are others!!!

I'm guessing bizman is talking about the "Redeem an Award" tab on your Hilton account page. Check it out.

Hey guys ...can you explain to me what a "GLON" award is?? I'm new at Hilton due to D2B's "Gold Rush" post.

OK..OK....I've answered my own question and now know what the GLON 100k point award is...the only remaining question...what defines a VIP??? I'm a newly minted GOLD...does it count?
Gold = VIP = Great award levels.
Congrats!
