Los Angeles - Getting from SNA to LAXView Full Version : Getting from SNA to LAX jmd001 Jul 11, 11, 5:08 pm Looking for options for getting from SNA to LAX. SuperShuttle says they do it for $73. Any other suggestions ... excluding flying? PokerHammy Jul 11, 11, 5:11 pm A one-way car rental would be cheaper. jmd001 Jul 11, 11, 5:19 pm A one-way car rental would be cheaper. I had looked at Hertz with a AAA discount, and they want slightly over 50 bucks for the trip. A bit cheaper, yes. But then there is the hassle of driving unfamiliar roads, and hunting for gas near LAX to avoid paying their refuel rates. PokerHammy Jul 11, 11, 5:41 pm Try using Hotwire or Priceline - could be under $40 a/i. The directions are pretty straightforward - go 405 north, exit Century Blvd., and there are plenty of gas stations right after exiting the freeway. Google Maps is your friend if you don't have GPS. SWCPHX Jul 11, 11, 6:48 pm There is the Flyaway Bus from the Irvine Train Station. http://www.lawa.org/popup.aspx?id=2512 ssm949 Jul 11, 11, 6:54 pm I believe there is bus service that runs from LAX to SNA... you may want to check the SNA website for details. Car rental used to the be the best options, but it has gotten expensive in the last year to drop cars at different airports in socal from where you picked it up. jmd001 Jul 11, 11, 6:57 pm There is the Flyaway Bus from the Irvine Train Station. Excellent suggestion ... except not sure I can make the 12:45 PM departure, and the next one is not until 4:45 PM (which is much later than desired). bzcat Jul 12, 11, 11:54 am How much time do you have? It's possible to do this by public transportation but it will take a while. SNA is the least transit accessible airport in LA area. Do you really want to attempt this? http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=sna&daddr=LAX+International+Airport+LA,+World+Way,+Los +Angeles,+CA&hl=en&ll=33.817948,-118.111954&spn=0.37708,0.727158&sll=33.804256,-118.134613&sspn=0.377141,0.727158&geocode=FYvpAQId-I_5-CHiGRHD9ehByQ%3BFefvBQIdKTrx-Cm1T7IT0rDCgDHxrYtpV3uodw&mra=ltm&dirflg=r&ttype=dep&date=07%2F12%2F11&time=1:00pm&noexp=0&noal=0&sort=def&t=h&z=11&start=0 I take Metro in LA all the time and even I wouldn't try this. Public transportation option in Orange County blows. One-way rental car is the way to go if Irvine Fly Away schedule doesn't work for you. SNAnghbr Jul 12, 11, 2:28 pm Not sure if you have time for this or if it would work. Take the I shuttle (Monday to Friday) from SNA to the Tustin Metrolink station. http://www.irvineshuttle.net/connections Then take Metrolink to Union Station. Finally take the FlyAway bus from Union Station to LAX. jmd001 Jul 12, 11, 2:43 pm How much time do you have? ... I totally cracked up when I noted Google's projected travel time of 3 hr 59 min ! Not exactly practical, but immensely creative. Thanks. :D bzcat Jul 12, 11, 5:09 pm Not sure if you have time for this or if it would work. Take the I shuttle (Monday to Friday) from SNA to the Tustin Metrolink station. http://www.irvineshuttle.net/connections Then take Metrolink to Union Station. Finally take the FlyAway bus from Union Station to LAX. The OP is arriving around midday. Metrolink OC line doesn't go all the way to Union Station during that time (I think it ends in Fullerton). Otherwise, this is the best option. I totally cracked up when I noted Google's projected travel time of 3 hr 59 min ! Not exactly practical, but immensely creative. Thanks. :D :D Public transportation is not for faint of heart in good ole Orange County. If you were landing at BUR and trying to get to LAX, it would be very simple to do via public transportation. 1st Cav Vet Jul 12, 11, 5:25 pm I drive a rental car from SNA to LAX often. At least your future is in your control. Refueling at LAX area is easy. Try National and Budget for prices. jmd001 Jul 12, 11, 5:35 pm I drive a rental car from SNA to LAX often. There is now no question in mind: Public transportation is NOT practical. azepine00 Jul 15, 11, 11:28 am Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. There is now no question in mind: Public transportation is NOT practical. Yep. Rent a car. It's a straight line up 405 - hard to get lost (think getting from SJC to SFO given that you are from bay area) and there are gas stations on century on the way to rental return. Plus you can stop on the way to have a snack or to do sightseeing/shopping if you have time. Rob Z Jul 19, 11, 1:51 pm What about that new LAX shuttle (http://shuttletolax.com) service, Shuttle2LAX.com (http://shuttletolax.com). My understanding is that they will take you to or from LAX for a flat fare of $20 first passenger, $11 each additional passenger. With the sale, seems to be $3-5 less than what I was quoted for Supershuttle and Prime Time for 2 people to go from LAX to an Anaheim hotel. I'd tend to go with a service I'm familiar with, but this may be a good one. Michilander Aug 1, 11, 7:02 am Without going into all the whys, we are flying into SNA but are staying in Culver City. Looked for a rate for limo service between the two and got a whole bunch of quotes, some of which we find acceptable. However, we have no experience with any of the companies, so I am looking for any recommendations. Thanks. alayna28 Aug 17, 11, 7:17 pm I would look into Prime Time Shuttle (http://primetimeshuttle.com), their definitely cheaper than Super Shuttle. I've used them several times they have good service. Often1 Aug 17, 11, 7:22 pm How much time do you have? It's possible to do this by public transportation but it will take a while. LAX often has $100+ dropoff fees and is often an exception to general "no drop" locations. |
