Has anyone here on the FT Boards stayed at the Hilton in Tarrytown, NY?

Where are the best rooms?

How is the property overall?

Actually...NO ... but I have had MANY delightful stays at the Rye Town Hilton, which is only about 10 miles away. That is a beautiful property, in a wooded setting, with all of the amenenities, I never had a bad room or a bad experience with ANY staff member, and you NEVER have to remind them how to treat HHonors with status. The Tarrytown is VERY close to the Tappan Zee Bridge, you could end up really snarled in traffic around there, I think. Go for the Rye Town if you can.

I have stayed at the Tarrytown Hilton. It is very nice though older. Shaped in a big horseshoe. Elites stay to the left in the nicer rooms. If you are going there to work with IBM they have an IBM rate. It was $154 per night vs over $200 standard. It is very spread out so will walk quite a bit. Nice coffee shop type restaurant across the street that will give you enough food on one plate to feed you and everyone else.

I've only found one reference to the Tarrytown Hilton. The web site claims <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">For 40 years, the Hilton Tarrytown has provided their guests with a relaxing country setting...</font>Yet the only comment I've found on FT about this hotel: <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">By doglover (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum57/HTML/008321.html)
Tarrytown is really run down, it should not have the Hilton name on it IMO.</font>makes me wonder if it's been renovated at all in that time. Does anyone else have comments on this property? It already sounds like I should plan on staying at the Marriott Courtyard Tarrytown/Greenburgh instead.

I stayed at the Hilton Tarrytown in late February or early March. The architecture reminded me of a country club constructed in the 1950s. Was given a nice room way in the back with a view of the bridge. Was a little on the shabby side, but not horrible. The restaurant was very 1970s. Service was fine and the room rate was good. I'd stay there again, but won't expect too much.

Don't stay at the Courtyard. Its a pain to get out of, and not much to brag about. The Tarrytown Marriott is nice and new.

The Hilton is ok. We had a corporate rate that made it about 60% cheaper than the rack rate, and by far the cheapest in town. Even without the cheap rate, it was still one of the cheapest around.

The rooms are ok. I had some that had strange odors, but most were acceptable. The pool is one of the better ones for lap swimming (too small, but tollerable), and the windows do open. It's also fairly quiet, though not too far away. The Rye Town is much nicer, more expensive, and a long drive away from Tarrytown.

This is a very unusual, low-rise Hilton property. Check-in was simple and sweet and there was a folio pre-prepared with my free breakfast coupon, a key for the mini-bar where you get two free bottles of water and a welcome letter from the GM which advised that Diamonds receive the water, breakfast and "the best available accomodations."

The property is spread out, sprawling like a resort which is kind of what it is. I parked by the door closest to my room and lugged my luggage up the stairs because the elevator is service only. The room was fairly large, though the bathroom was tiny. It had a very small and old Philips TV but a decent selection of cable channels. The furniture was fairly worn but obviously high end at the time. It's almost retro style old like solid wood with a marble top for the dresser. The mattress was updated and the window coverings and bedding were old-style but looked in decent condition.

Room service was eh - not bad, not good. The prices were reasonable though there was a 20% service charge and service was a bit slow. The pool area is great and there are some nice tennis courts and plenty of other recreational activities. There was a slightly musty smell to the entire place.

The high speed worked just OK. Most sites worked just fine but you couldn't access Flyertalk (gasp!) due to a "proxy" issue. I also could not get Hotmail through Outlook Express (I'm a paying member) and had some issues with a few other pages. I called technical support and the bozo decided that since I had connectivity to most sites, all was OK which it clearly wasn't.

This is a decent property that has a certain charm and character compared to other Hiltons. I tend to think they host a lot of weddings by the nature of the property. It is easy to get to but feels secluded as it's surrounded by woods. It may not be my cup of tea but it's a solid property and I wouldn't hesitate staying there, especially if I were on a leisure trip.

There are 3 rooms types,

Looking at the parking lot
Looking at the inner Court Yard
Patio with table an chair.

The patio are the rooms on the ground floor facing the courtyard. I can't give a floor number becuase the building as was said before, it very odly shapped. oh and try not to get lost in it, I've wondered down dead end hallways and had to turn around.

So. Ask for a room with a patio.

I forgot to add one thing: The A/C system pretty much sucked for me, it blew lukewarm air and I had it on high fan speed at the coldest temperature. I don't know if it was my unit, or if the A/C is shut down for the season but I like a cool room and that wasn't happening in the room I was given. I will stay there again next week so I can determine if it's a fluke or not.

I stayed at this hotel a few months ago. It was okay, but felt a bit worn. As a Diamond I was upgraded to a suite. I'd stay there again.
