I called the service center to get credit for a missing stay and redeem an award at the same time. First of all, the service was outstanding. The rep called the hotel while I was on the phone and then came back and told me what my new Hhonors balance was. The website updated instantly and showed the proper credit for my Conquest and Diners Club bonuses.

The very interesting part was the award redemption. Since awards are taking up to 3 weeks (yikes!) via snail mail, I was asked if I would like the reward faxed. Sure! A couple of days later, the fax showed up. But the fax quality was poor and my HHonors number was listed incorrectly even though my name and address were correct.

I called the service center and explained the problem. After a few minutes on hold, I was told they would refax the award. I asked the agent what would prevent someone from copying the fax reward and reusing it. She drew my attention to the reward confirmation number on the fax. Apparently, the hotel can/should key in the number at check to verify that it is indeed valid. If that's the case, I asked, is a hard copy of the reward still required at check in? I was told that it is still required. Apparently, the web site also allows one to request award redemption via fax now.
