I've been on a quest for some warm weather shoes that are versatile for leisure travel and comfy enough to wear all day. I normally wear flats for travel but I found some great wedge sandals with very good support. They are by Naot (I usually don't care for the way Naots look but these are cute) and I got them in a silvery bronze color so they go with everything. They took me through 3 weeks in London and France and I wore them for some serious, 12-15 hour walking days. Because of the wedge, they are very versatile and stylish. I wore them with skirts, slacks and jeans. Not inexpensive ($175 US) but worth every penny.

Thanks for that link ^^ Like you, I generally don't care for Naot's styles, even though they are very comfortable (much like Merrell, Ecco, & Geox, and buy from any of those lines as soon as I find a pair that might be good for a business-casual work environmnent.
These fit the bill and I'll be trying them ^^

Wow, are you used to wearing heels in your daily life?
I have only walked on flats in the last few years, and heels only when I have to go somewhere like a restaurant or a dinner/lunch engagement, but never walking around. I am afraid to be so high off the ground for so long.
In any case, I am interested, and will try it out in a store first.

I am usually a flats girl, too. These are the first heels that I have worn for daily wear but I really like them. The platform took me a little getting used to and I wouldn't want to chase my kids in them but now that mine are all in school I can wear these all day.

Two years ago on a trip to Europe I found ARA shoes, they are fantastic, a dressy shoe that you can walk all day in. There is no "breaking in" period - you can pop them on brand new and they are comfortable. I have 5 pairs now and counting ! European sizing means I'm a 7g or h ( 9 and a half wide )
On our last trip (7 weeks RTW) I managed with 3 pairs - 1 pair of flats, 1 pair heels and my merrells for the gym.

Finally bought a pair of Naot Treasure in black. Love them.
I also bought a pair of Grey ones, but sadly had to return them because the elastic on the left shoe was too loose.
While trying to get back to heels, I also got a pair of Cole Haan Air Regina in gold color. They look dressy and are extremely comfortable.

Any suggestions for great shoes to wear on November trip to Prague, Budapest, Vienna, & Berlin? I need comfort (multiple foot surgeries for bone spurs), high arch, wide toe box, warm and waterproof. Is there such a thing??>

my new favorite thread!!!! :D
so far, the only sandals that i have been able to walk in day after day (and on cobblestone occasionally), are the Naturalizer "N5" line. i will definitely check out the cole haan's and the OP's brand.
thank you!

I have goretex hiking shoes - waterproof, comfortable, don't really look great with business clothing or on vacation when I don't want to look like I've just been hiking. Last year, went to Amsterdam in November - wanted a nice comfy pair of shoes (it ended up raining, snowing & sleeting every day of our trip ;-) I bought Keen ankle boots and waterproofed them at home - they were great! Comfortable with warm socks (smart wool - my favorites!) and they stayed dry because of a $4 spray I used at home. I live in NC and have heavier duty boots (that I wear rarely because it's usually too warm) but these were a nice shoulder season type item I've worn again and again with pants. I have knee high boots that are just as comfy, but it's more difficult to travel with tall boots.... - I browsed sierratradingpost.com until I saw something I liked:p Based on the sizing suggestions, I did go up a half size: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/keen-carlisle-low-boots-leather-for-women~p~2467j/?filterString=search~keen%2Fshoes~d~4%2F Oddly - Keen sandals do not fit me, but these boots are great. Go figure ;-)
La Canadienne has some gorgeous waterproof boots - but they're too narrow for my foot:(

Just back from Europe and brought myself a pair of Chanel flats. SOOO comfortable! and can walk in them all day every day without my feet getting sore! I normally find flat shoes hurt my feet, as I wear heels mostly...but these were a great buy! (and on special!)

The Cole Haans are very cute. Thanks for the link. And they're on sale, too.

Even if I pack two or three pairs, I always fall back on the Merrells. Many Merrell styles are too sporty/outdoorsy for cities but there's a plain black or brown leather Mary Jane called the Allure that's a real "GoTo" shoe. Nice and slim and unobtrusive and versatile, but very supportive and sturdy.
