I've stayed at two of these and I'd have to agree on one--Napa--with real black swans floating around the inner courtyard among beautiful greenery. But, I have a problem with the one in Lompoc which I didn't think was anything special at all and well...it's in Lompoc.

Surprised to see a couple of airport hotels included in the list. Even more that Embassy Suites SFO Airport Burlingame was not included. Terrific property facing the water with a small park for jogging. Indoor atrium has waterfalls and palm trees. Excellent resort-like feeling. Room had a small view of SFO skyline 16 miles away. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Having had two excellent recent stays at ES (Washington DC Convention Center and Waikiki)--I realize that this chain is perfect for vacations!
Would like to get opinions on highly rated ES properties in resort areas--US and ex-US.

I have to say we also loved the Embassy Suites Beachwalk in Waikiki. It is by far my favorite of all the Embassy Suites I've stayed in. I also prefer it over HHV which I've also stayed in. Better location, significantly larger rooms, easier access in and out (fast valet service), and an awesome breakfast!

I've stayed in Portland, and it was easily the best Embassy I've ever stayed in, and one of the best rooms in any hotel.
Maybe when this thread was new the Embassy in Napa was a great place, it use to be my number one choice, but over the years it's gotten horrible. Last trip my list of issues was pages long, they refunded the stay, but that's not enough to get me to go back there.

I've stayed at the Embassy Suite at Raleigh-Durham, the one I stayed was in Cary if there more than one ES in the area. It was good in gerneal but not sure if it is a vacation spot.
Also stayed at Embassy Suite Napa few months back, can't understand why it is a Cat6 hotel. The place is very near free way, room was small and tired even they claimed it was recently renovated, food quality at breakfast was not very good. I don't have problem with Hilton's hotel ranking system but this one is really off IMHO.

"Overrated" seems par for the course around Napa/Sonoma/Marin...
I was very pleasantly surprised at the ES in ABQ. A most excellent concierge who took care of the key details for my weekend with my gf, super friendly and efficient check-in, well-appointed suite, convenient location, etc....all for the un-princely sum of 18,000 points.

Here is a list of ES hotels that are considered to be in resort locations:
http://embassysuitesresorts.com/
I can't say if any of them are "highly rated" or not. I really like the Dorado, PR hotel, though, for its true oceanfront location. A true suite, hot BK, and evening reception for prices similar to what you find at a normal full service resort with standard rooms and no free BK.

The nicest ES that I have ever stayed in is the ES in Old Town Montreal. The suites are more like condos rather than hotel suites. All of the suites have a very nice kitchen with marble counter tops and full sized stainless steel fridge. Most of the suites have a fire place and Jacuzzi tub large enough for two;). There is a large flat screen TV on the wall of the living room and small flat screen in the bedroom.
The suite doesn't have the typical ES layout with living room at the front and the bedroom in the back. The layout is more like a condo where you walk into a vestibule with the kitchen on one side and the bathroom on the other.

I am not sure what the phrase "top performing" means. Top performing could mean most profitable not necessarily the best quality.

It certainly isn't the Pittsburg Airport ES. That place is dog ear'd and the ice machine rooms smell awful (like mold and fungus)

I'm sure it's not the very best, but I quite like ES Niagara Falls (Canada side). Some of the room views are quite excellent. Huge evening reception and breakfast areas. But it's a large property (lots of guests).

You are kidding of course. They charge $6-$10 for both self service and valet parking in addition to a 12% resort fee for mostly unknown or hidden resort services. etc. As I remember the ocean beach is not exactly at your doorstep and the evening nibblies are mostly 100% salty stale stuff (read pretzels-n-pototo chips quickly grabbed up by the mooching local non-registered relatives of the hotel employees.

Photos of the ES Mandalay Beach in Oxnard, CA seem to show it is right on the beach. Any recent stays/opinions?

Stayed at ES Oxnard about 1 1/2 years ago (I know sorta dated). I loved it. I got a room facing the ocean on the bottom floor (Gold upgrade) and it was great just walking out to the beach. I also liked that it wasnt crowded, which made it sorta feel like a private beach (granted, i wasnt there during summer). The night reception was better than the avg. ES (drinks were good). THere is a large hot tub that was a lot of fun as well. I think there are tennis courts there too but dont remember. It is also easy to get to the Channel Islands from there.

Pay attention to when the original thread started Feb 20, 01 Someone need to post a new list. I doubt a property can stay in one of the best 15 after 8 years, it is not like Conrad Hong Kong

Really? We stayed there once and while the views were great and the rooms were decent, the elevators were brutal. 20 minute waits were the norm not the exception, regardless of time of day. For that reason alone we rate it lower than other Embassy's.
I'll stick to my earlier comment that the ES Waikiki is the best I've been at thus far.
with saying i usually stay at either Marriott or Westin but this time the project i am on we are staying at the Embassy in Tuscon and i have to say i am very impressed by both the service and hotel itself plus the location at the foot of the Catalina Mountains is a bonus. Very nice courtyard and pool and spa area. I usually don't impress easily but they got me on this one.

Thanks for the Montreal info--that is now definitely on my "to do" list.....
Are there any other great ES properties ex-US?
