Hong Kong and Macau - Is 90 minutes for HKG connection enough? Will I be protected if I misconnect?

My wife and I are travelling to Thailand next January via Air Canada from Vancouver BC.
We have a connecting flight in Hong Kong with just a 1 1/2 hr stop over.
I'm worried about the short time between connecting flights, especially at that time of year.
Air Canada is using Thai Airways from Hong Kong to Bangkok.

Should we miss the connecting flight, what can we reasonably expect Air Canada to do for us in Hong Kong?
ie; If there isn't another flight until the next day, will they take care of hotel expenses etc?

Thanks for any tips and advice!
Rob

rt8ca, welcome to FlyerTalk! Please follow as the thread (with a more precise title edit) moves to the Travel->Hong Kong forum for discussion.

Also, in the Hong Kong forum, there's a recent thread about a shorter on-line connection in Hong Kong here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hong-kong/1219299-minimum-connecting-time-hkg.html

Welcome to FT!

I don't know about the hotel expenses.. but they'll certainly rebook you on the next available connecting flight..

If you do arrive on time, 90 mins should be sufficient. While HKG is pretty big, they are really quite efficient. You may have to go down the long "arm" of the airport and back to do the transit transfer but then, it is only 10-15 mins max. Been there and done it in less than 60.

Just don't get distracted by the tons of shopping, restaurants, etc on the way back to your next flight. The outbound level is like a giant mall!

Have fun.
