Anyone have any experience getting Gold VIP room upgrades on a government rate? Do they allow upgrades on that rate or should I shell out the extra for a regular rate room?

My experience is that they treat the government rate pretty much like any other business rate. My experience is also, however, that if they don't have an upgrade available, you are in the former broom closet with a view of the brick wall next door.

I'm sitting here on the executive floor at the Boston Aiport Hilton on a friggen AAA rate. I'd imagine they'll help you out :-).

Are you referring to a "best available" room upgrade based on the fact that you are a Gold-VIP or actually purchasing an upgrade?

I was upgraded to a club level room recently as a Gold-VIP on a government rate. I have never had any problems upgrading, regardless of the rate paid.

I usually stay at hotels at the government rate. I was never asked for I.D. until I became Gold VIP. They then upgraded me after entering my I.D. number in the computer.

As a Diamond who stays 75 nights per year at Hilton and 75 nights plus at Marriotts (Platinum) with almost all (95%+) on Gov't rates, I hardly ever get turned down for the best possible upgrade... Gov't rates are definintely upgradeable for all benefits and privledges
