Our local minor league team had Bark in the Park today. We took Geno, but left Cobaka at home. He did really well, considering that we had some thunder towards the middle/end of the game. There were probably 20 dogs there or so. It was very enjoyable, and I was surprised at how well the ballpark was prepped for dogs. Several of the kid-sized plastic swimming pools for drinking and for cooling off during the game, employees with dog biscuits, and, not having "Cannonball Charlie" at the game. Yes, they usually have "Cannonball Charlie" who sets off a half-size cannon at the middle of the first inning, and any time the home team hits a home run. However, they've figured out that too many dogs wouldn't like Cannonball Charlie, so he takes a vacation during Bark in the Park.
For a dog that two years ago would hide from strangers, Geno now would walk up to strangers to get attention. :) He did really, really well with kids, allowing every child who wanted to pet him to do so, no barking or anything.
I could tell towards the end of the game, after the thunder had started, that he'd had about enough, so we headed home.
It was a nice opportunity for him to have some additional socialization, and we'll probably take him to the next one too.
If you're looking to give your dog an additional, supervised socialization outing, I'd definitely suggest Bark in the Park!
