India - Need help--DEL--Tight Jet airways to United connection
I am arriving at T3 IGI Delhi at 9.55 pm by Jetlite and my United airline international flight is at 11.35 pm. I know it will be tight. Need to determine how tight and would love to leverage your knowledge.
1.Jet airways arrival to Baggage claim
2.At baggage claim assuming nothing goes wrong
3.Baggage claim to United airlines check in counter
4.Wait in queue for United airlines check-in
5.Immigration-I beleive there is a separate counter..Line may be shorter here as kids and wife are us citizens and I am on a green card. Correct me if I am wrong
6. Security
I better start saying my prayers daily. Thanks again for your help. Your insight is really appreciated

when is your flight????in another thread you had suggested travel in december....if that is the case then i don't think you have enough time to make your connection....even if it's not december, less than 2 hours is touch & go....
to the best of my knowledge, if all goes well, you will require:
1. 15 minutes from the time your flight lands to make it to baggage claim....
2. another 10-15 minutes at baggage claim....
3. another 10 minutes to make it to the the check-in counter....
4. this could take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour depending on the rush....
5. immigration lines will take a long time unless you are traveling in business/first class....again, anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour depending on the rush....
6. security should take no longer than 10-15 minutes....
Thanks Keyser. I have some additional questions.
-My wife has a PIO so that may cut down sometime in immigration. Correct me if I am wrong as I believe there are separate counters (per IGI website).
-I purchased the ticket (round trip Charlotte to Ahmedabad) as one ticket from a website of a travel agency (faregeek.com)
--Nov 10th-Charlotte -Ahmedabad is (Charlotte-Munich-Mumbai with Lufthansa and Mumbai-Abad with Jet)
--Dec 8th-Ahmedabad-Charlotte is (Abad-Delhi by Jetlite, Delhi -Newark united/ operated by CO , Newark- Charlotte UA/ operated by US airways)
The Abad-Delhi flight leaves at 8.35 and reaches IGI at 9.55. The Delhi-Newark connection departs at 11.35 pm..So I have a tight connection.
I am pretty sure I just cannot show up in Delhi without completing Abad-Delhi leg and without informing Jet. What I would really like to do is to take the earlier Jet flight out of Ahmedabad for Delhi (same day or a day earlier). Given that it was purchased as a single ticket, what are my chances of getting on an earlier Jet flight without paying through nose...Can I fly standby on earlier flight same day..If so, what precuations/additional info do I need to give to Jet, so my onward journey is not cancelled...
Of course...the last and least preferable options is to stick with what I have and take my chances.
If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks for reading through this and your prompt responses..As always your insight is much appreciated.

it may cut down a little bit of time but not much....the only line i see moving along faster than the others is the business/first line....

there is an earlier jet konnect flight which departs amd at 2:30pm & gets into del at 4pm....i would suggest trying to get onto this flight....the fare difference should not be much....you can get in touch with faregeek.com & ask them what would be the charges for the change....that is your best bet....

this is not recommended....in all likelihood you will miss your flight with so little connection time....
Thnaks Keyser..I will call faregeek and see what they say.

If you stick to what you have, you still might be ok. Just tell the security guard or Jet Airways agent that you have a tight connection and they'll most likely help you cut to the front of the check-in and passport control lines.

please keep in mind that this is delhi in december so there is a very strong likelihood that the incoming flight will be delayed due to fog....i very much doubt the op will be able to make his connecting flight....
Thanks hyderago and Keyser. I have not as yet started my outbound flight and will check with TA about preponing this flight.
Few more questions..Is it better to deal with TA or to start the travel and then deal directly with Jet rather than TA. There are few scenario's that come to my mind. Please be frank and help me think through them (on cost basis and peace of mind). It's a restrictive ticket cost me about 1150 per passenger (as compared to 1500) and there are 4 passengers
Scenario 1- Deal with TA now-Severe Penalties now and peace of mind now
Scenario 2-begin the travel in November and deal with Jetlite, the moment I reach Ahmedabad in November-Penalties (higher or lower than scenario 1??) and peace of mind later
Scenario 3-Begin travel and Deal with Jetlite on last day by trying for an earlier flight on Stand by basis.
Scenario 4-Can I just show up in Delhi without bothering about Jetlite Abad-Delhi (Why do I think, that this is just out of question..looks I I have married Jelite)
Thanks again for your patienet replies and insightful answers

scenario 4 is out of the question....your ticket will become invalid if you miss a leg in between....
go with scenario 1....you will end up paying the ta less than the airline....

First 10 days of December are usually not that bad for fog, and the fog is more likely to hit the latter night/early morning flights than the early evening and mid-evening flights headed to DEL into the first ten days of December.
Personally, I wouldn't do anything in the situation of having a single ticketed PNR for the roundtrip journey between the US and Ahmedabad, at least after having confirmed that the entire roundtrip journey is a single ticketed PNR. When travel is under a single ticketed PNR, the IATA member airline(s) involved in the misconnection are in a position to rebook as necessary. The exception for me would be if being off by up to 24 hours would make a mess of things or not, but then there may be change fees and the like involved. Personally, I'd just wait to see if there would be an involuntary schedule change and then take advantage of that.

last year the fog situation was pretty good in delhi & the first 10 days of december were relatively fog free....however, i remember a lot of decembers in the past that have been hit by fog pretty early on....
even if the op's flight is not delayed by fog, the fact is that he has a little over an hour & a half to connect to his international flight....if all goes well then there is nothing to worry about but that is going to be a tight connection....
i do agree with the fact that the op can wait for an involuntary schedule change but it's best not to wait till the last minute....
Thanks GUwonder and Keyser...What is a single ticketed PNR..When I look at my ticket, I see following 3. However, I can pullup my trip on checkmytrip.com using single PNR. Can you please clarify..if my ticket is single ticketed PNR or a combo (I suspect it may be combo)
1. Lufthansa CLT-EWR-BOM is one PNR
2. Jet airays BOM-AMD ((Jetkonnect) and Jetlite AMD-DEL is another
3. UA (operated by CO) DEL-EWR and UA(operated by US air) EWR is the 3rd PNR
Thanks again for great insights

When able to pull up the above itinerary in its entirety by entering a single PNR (along with your name) on Checkmytrip.com, then you are on a single ticketed PNR if the single PNR entered there also includes the ticket number(s) for all of the booked segments showing there.
It seems to be a single ticketed PNR -- that means the airline(s) will protect you/rebook you (for free) in case of irregular operations disrupting your travel.
Thanks Guwonder and keyser.

Called Jet and a csr suggested trying stand by. Started reaserching it..There is one realier direct flight AMD-DEL flight which is usually avaliable. Assuming that it's not available, can one do standby using AMD-BOM-DEL (There are quite a few such flights)..Is it possible or my imagination is working overtime.
Agian thanks for your insights

that is the flight i mentioned in post #4....i have taken this flight often but sometimes it does get full....i don't think amd-bom-del would be an option....
