Well,

I just reached another milestone. I can't
believe I actually spent 200 Nights at
Hilton Properties. Spent about 26K
all together. My experience as a diamond
member is a little spotty. Some Hotels
like the Waldorf were great, and other
like in Parsippay, NJ were mediocre.
So in my estimate
40 % were excellent
30 % were great
30 % were ones I would never return to.

Well at your level, that's a legitimate sample! At my level - around 35 stays - I'd say maybe only 20% were "will never darken the door again" category.. most notably the Hiton somewhere around Randallstown, MD - yuk - the airport Hampton in JAX - yuk - and most notably the Hampton Inn off I12 in BTR - double yuk.

But the Doubletree on LBJ Freeway in Dallas - super!

Anyway - I don't envy your travel schedule - makes me whine less about mine http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

**** - 200 Nights? I will now stop my complaining about a mere 100 days this past year.

SVP: I agree with you about the DoubleTree at LBJ & Tollway - it's great! Unfortunately we have a corporate rate guarantee over at the Hilton Dallas Pkwy (across street), it's O.K. but not that great.

Do you get a special rate at the Doubletree LBJ? I spend a significant amount of my travel time in North Dallas.

My question is, which is better? "Excellent" or "Great?"

Which Dallas Doubletree are you referring to? 635 and the Tollway or farther down 635, close to 75?

I have been tempted to book the 635/Tollway one...impressive from the outside, but never stayed in it.

635 just before you get to the tollways - just north of 35 - not being from there, that's as good as I can do http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I have frequently been able to get a AAA rate at that Doubletree ranging from $99 to $119.. they're the best bunch of folks in town, the rooms are terrific - the concierge room is so nice I actually sat down in it after grabbing my food and drink - I never stay anywhere else now.

In Dallas, I've stayed at Homewood Suites, Garden Inns, the Hilton across the freeway from the Doubletree we're discussing, and while all were perfectly nice, this one is worth the effort to book ahead and get a good rate. The manager there sent me a hand written letter after I dropped a note at the checkout counter after my last visit praising them.

I too have stayed about 100 nights at Hilton properties this year. Although none have been in any glamour spots just places like Southbury, CT., Endicott & Tarrytown, NY and Raleigh, NC. Unfortunately I've been staying at more Marriotts recently because of some shoddy treatment at the Southbury site. They lost some expensive shirts when I had them laundered and refused to replace them b/c their "staff" said all articles of clothing were returned to my room. I guess they really don't care about diamond members and I have subsequently booked more business and leisure stays with Marriott unless there is no other choice in the city/town I'm in. Oh well, I guess one diamond member really doesn't mean that much in the whole big scheme of things for these large hotel chains....sign me "a little disappointed and spending my $ elsewhere"
