Hi, I'm from Malaysia, planning to have my honeymoon vacation to NewZealand which is superbly nice place to start with.

We are little worried on the recent earth quake which striked NZ early this year 2011, can anyone let us know the current situation at NZ on natural disaster...

we are planning for the trip on 1st week Dec 2011.
How would the weather be?

cheers

Welcome to FT!

As far as natural disasters go, the only place that is having earthquakes is Christchurch in the South Island. Everywhere else (Far North, Bay of Islands, Auckland, Coromandel, Rotorua, Wellington, Napier, Milford Sound, Queenstown, Wanaka, etc...) are fine. In fact there are large swathes of Christchurch that are business as normal too.

Depending on what you want to do, you probably won't be visiting Christchurch anyway (or if you did, even before the earthquakes, it would have only been a day or two at most).

December is start of summer in NZ. You're looking at highs anywhere around 20-25ºC (http://www.tourism.net.nz/new-zealand/about-new-zealand/weather-and-climate.html#temperatures) depending on location. Lots of sun too - and a great time to visit beaches, vineyards, islands, etc...

Queenstown and Wanaka are the perfect honeymoon places in NZ. Beautiful all year round. There have been minor earthquakes felt in most places south of Auckland but most people will tell you they hardly even notice them.

Christchurch is still having aftershocks, but most people don't stay in Christchurch as they just pass through heading south. If you're looking for beaches then try the Coromandel Peninsula. It can however still be quite cold in December for swimming.
