Fairmont President's Club - FPC members:No complimentary "wireless" for IPad users

Two days ago I detailed my visit to the Fairmont Olympic http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/16630680-post1251.html
As you can see MarshKing kindly reminded me that internet service should have been comped due to FPC membership. I sent an email and received a response today. Lo and behold FPC makes a distinction between high speed internet for wired and wireless. Wireless is not comped. :(
Yes, my IPad use cost $ 15 and change per day. That is a lot of lattes for Sra Tondoleo over 3 days. If I was wired up it would have cost nada.
I realize Mr. Gates does not live or work far from the Fairmont. He owns an interest in the Four Seasons. What would he care if I use free wireless for my IPad at the Fairmont. Is his agenda so insidious in the Seattle area that he has convinced the Fairmont to squeeze IPad users. Will this frugal traveler be forced to lug his laptop on the next visit to a Fairmont?
I have sent another email asking for reconsideration and hope that a luddite does not review the request. Perhaps an enlightened IPad user will make the decision.

This sounds like baloney. The benefit, per the Presidents Club site, is "Complimentary, In-room high speed Internet access." No distinction is made between wired and wireless.
I can't remember for sure if we used wireless at the Olympic in December, but I'd be shocked if we didn't. Between us we have 3 wireless-only devices, including an iPad. We were not charged for Internet, that much I do know.

My wireless at the Orchid was complimentary this year.. in room
Used my laptop and BB
May differ from hotel to hotel..
Wireless is definitely free at many Fairmonts for FPC, but perhaps they distinguish at some properties.

It would be easier to lug a portable wireless router, which also gives you the option of multiple devices logging in at no extra charge.

Not just Fairmont.

The comparisons for this thread is between Fairmonts as it seems there are different experiences depending on the Fairmonts patroned..
So far for the most part NA Fairmonts seem to not charge for wifi if its available.. Fairmonts are transitioning to wireless and being retrofitted as time moves along

Thanks for the information about other experiences regarding wireless device charges at Fairmonts around NA.
I sent another email stating that Fairmont's policy regarding charging for wireless was inconsistent. I received a response from Fairmont's marketing department:
" I will certainly provide your comments to the Director of the Program who reviews member feedback prior to the start of each program year."
I did have some free stamps a friend gave me recently. I used them to post a snail mail letter to Fairmont Corporate HQ in Toronto.

I stayed at The Olympic in April along with my iPad and am pleased to say the wireless Internet was free and worked well.

Fairmont Liaison,
I appreciate your taking the time to post a message on this thread regarding the wireless internet issue. Thanks to all of the FTers who posted their internet experience. I look forward to bringing my IPad to Fairmonts.
This is why FT is a wonderful forum. :p

^^^ here.
I know that various companies monitor groups here at FT; but I do want to say that this is an example of the Fairmont team doing a great job of clarifying and resolving issues.
It transcends the all-too-frequent "social media" marketing activities; and translates into goodwill from your customers - and real revenue from our fickle flock.
Thank you!

Was at the Olympic last night. Since my last visit a few weeks ago they have created a new category for internet service. Basic is still free. However higher bandwidth now costs $10 even for FPC. A few days ago I was at the Kea Lani which was still under the old system. I wonder if this is Fairmont wide or just the Olympic. I am at the Chateau Whistler in two weeks so I will compare there too.

I hope not. Such nickle and diming is just plain disgusting.
At Algonquin right now, no such differentiation (but then it's leaving Fairmont, so...).

I got the new system at Fairmont Chicago too, free for low speed and 10$ for "high speed".
But for me, the low speed was really good for mails and internet! :D

Things like this really get me annoyed. It´s bad enough it´s not possible to watch TV over the internet or that uploading larger files (like photos) takes ages at most properties (though some Fairmonts offer prety good connectivity).
Let´s hope this nonsense doesn´t become a Fairmont-wide policy.

I think that will be a new policy for all fairmont, and I hate this idea. Ok it's free to because a FPC, so everyone can have free wifi with 0 stay, BUT I think for FPC Premier or Plat, they can continue to provide the best connectivity available for free.
I'm not sure if that was in a DoubleTree, but they had 2 wifi, both "paid" wifi, but one was exculively for Gold and Diamond member, actually it was not really speed, but I think was better than the "general" one.

Make sure you calendar the date of the charge for your stay. You have 60 days to initiate a chargeback. At 50 days, I would dispute the high-speed charge portion of your bill if you haven't seen a credit.

Finished up at Fairmont San Francisco for 3 nights.. no option of charged higher internet speed..
Currently at Fairmont Miramar and Bungalows, and there is an option for higher Internet.. I think its' $13,95 per night, and $9.95 reduced rate for FPC members.. Will have to double check the rates next time the options pop up..

Both options were there.. and I used both the wireless and ethernet..
The system was finicky, and I often found myself under the table unplugging and resetting the system.. as first use after awhile, the internet just did not work..
Bring a cheap wireless router
