Hi All,
I have to travel to Las Vegas at the end of July. I have been looking a flights, but the fares are much higher than I expected. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions or tips on how to get a cheaper fare to fly to Las Vegas. I will be traveling from the Raleigh/Durham area. Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks.

Wait it out and hope they drop. At this point though you likely won't see a drop in price.
Since fares have been so high, I've been flying into LAX. Either I snag a cheap fare on a low cost carrier or make the drive. The drive sucks, but its a savings of a couple hundred dollars.....

there is a huge fare war for LAS-LAX right now. I've seen some fares under $100 including taxes.

No, the going rate on the majors has always been $150-175 except for Allegiant and Spirit, and those carriers make up the difference in BS fees. Back in the America West days you could fly nonstop to RDU for $150.
Agree that if you want a reasonable fare into or out of LAS it's almost always cheaper to rent a car and drive to or from LAX or LGB. For example $100 LGB-SEA vs $310 LAS-SEA.
And you'll avoid the Friday/Sunday rush hours at LAS. But when driving you'll need to avoid the Friday/Sunday rush hours on the I-15, in other words drive late at night.

You're seeing $100 fares for that or am I still  ?

other than alligent and spirit, a.i. fares general are in the 125-175 range. right now US has a.i. fares under $100, such as 7/19 - 7/26 which runs $85 a.i. (AA by comparison is $160 for those dates and UA is $206)
and I was referencing only LAX-LAS not from RDU. At $85 flying might be cheaper than renting a car and driving for some people.

fares to LAS can vary widely. I generally pay around $300 from ORD, but have paid as little as $200 and as much as $700. I always check for big conventions and trade shows as that will jack up the price and it will only get higher the closer you get to the date.

At $85 flying might be cheaper than renting a car and driving for some people. And a lot more pleasant too. OK the San Berdoo-Victorville stretch is scenic enough but the LAX end is freeway hell and from Victorville it's well, nothing.
If you don't mind WN they do it for $43 each way.
