Anyone able to give an indication of how much a Taxi from Arlanda to Central Stockholm would cost around 12:30am in the morning? Some estimates at daytime put the cost around 500-550SEK, which compared to the Arlanda Express is about 50-100SEK dearer but spread over 2 people that's not soo bad, plus it is door-to-door. However I imagine the prices at night time are a bit steeper. Anyone here know what the pricing is like to be like (Arlanda->Central Stockholm). I'm staying around 500-600m away from Central Station, just not sure if we really want to talk it at around 1am on a Saturday morning.

Hi.
The major taxi firms use a fixed rate from ARN to anywhere in the city, SEK 450-550 or so. I don't think there's a late night supplement, but I may be wrong.
The lanes closest to the curb at the taxi stand at ARN (assuming you're arriving at Terminal 5) are reserved for the majors, and I'd recommend using one of those to minimize the risk of being scammed.

The train is faster than a taxi, but at that time of night there won't be much traffic so a taxi should not take too much time either. If there's two of you, definately use a taxi for convience.

Enjoy Stockholm!

More specific (I checked since I wanted to be sure) Taxi Stockholm has a fixed price of SEK 520 ARN-Stockholm city, and Taxi Kurir SEK 490. Those are two of the biggest companies, and the prices are the same anytime day or night. Also, same price going from the city to ARN.

It's important to emphasize that there is a free market for taxis in Sweden. The general rule is to stick with the majors in any city, although there are a few that actually undercut the big companies. The independent and "other" companies will usually try to charge a lot more and essentially rip you off eventhough the fare is disclosed properly, etc. You are not compelled to select the first cab in a rank, but pick your choice of cab company.

In addition to the two already mentioned, the third major in Sthlm is 020 (yellow cars). So each one of these will have a similar flat rate to town. I guess you could try to negotiate with one of the other drivers.......

Here is a website where you can get prices for cabs:

If this is up to date then 020 has the best rate of the majors. Taxi Card always comes up as the cheapest, but I doubt that you'll find one Arlanda. They are not a "major" and I have never noticed one of their cars -- not that I am looking for them.

Remember that the Arlanda Express runs a promotion during the summer, two adults single for SEK 280, so it'll be significantly cheaper than a taxi.

Thanks everyone - Stockholm was great, go midsummer sun! Went with Taxikurir for the way in and indeed the rate was fixed and same as the daytime rate (SEK 490 around 12:30am). Even though the walk from Central Station to the hotel was only 5-10 minutes walk, at that time of night and first time in city, the taxi was a good deal.

Way back took the Arlanda Express 2for1 at SEK 280.

Glad you liked Stockholm, travisc, happy to help.

Actually, thinking about these warm light summer nights is what keeps us alive during the winter...
