Hi, I'll be going to Perth this September and would like to seek advice on places or dining chains which will not burn a hole in our pocket. I have 2 young kids, so will also need some kids friendly places. Finally, is there any good takeaways places for a picnic in the park. Thank you.

I can recommend this lot (http://mcdonalds.com.au/#/home) for a cheap feed.

Hi, thanks for the fast food recommendation.

I happen to chance upon this fast food place called chicken treat which is another take out. Is there any others that the locals may know of?

Besides fast food, any good Vietnamese dining place we should explore in the Perth city? Thank you.

What would be your budget per person? there are cheap & cheerful restaurants all over Perth, quite a few places often have specials on Mon/Tues/Wed like buy one meal get one free, kids eat free etc as these are the slowest nights for business. Pretty much everywhere is fine with childen.
Check out sites like urbanspoon for ideas.

Hi sethor, the websites you recommended were fantastic! Thank you.

We have somewhat finalise our itinerary, 2 days in Perth city and swan valley, 2 days in Albany, 4 days in Margaret river.

Our budget is about 10 bucks per pax. About the specials on weekdays, I will be very grateful if you could drop me some names, so I can search for them in the website you provided earlier. Thank you.

Saigon Café on James St is one of the cheaper (and more popular) Vietnamese places in the city. Slightly up the road is the "Old Shanghai", a food court with generally cheap Asian food. (There's another Old Shanghai in Fremantle, if you're going there.)

Insans Café on Murray St is slightly more expensive, but still fairly cheap, and serves Malaysian food.

Also, you mentioned Chicken Treat -- it and Red Rooster, the other chicken chain, both sell McDonald's-quality chicken-and-chips. It's edible, but you can do much better.

There are plenty of inexpensive places in downtown Perth, though it is a relative terms as everything is priced well above the comparable meal in San Francisco (which is no bargain itself). In central downtown, I found a few cheap eats on Shafto lane, some of which have outdoor seating which is nice in the summer.

In general Aussie establishments are far more child friendly than the US. In the small towns we found that many even have play areas for the children to use while the parents eat.
