Italy - How to guess what is open for business in august

Is there a way to find out my best bets for hotels, restaurants , etc that will be open in August, since the Italians like go on vacation too

It's important to detail where you're actually going in Italy. City establishments are more likely to be open than places out in the countryside. You should be ok with bigger/brand hotels. I'd go onto their website and attempt to book a room during August and see what happens. For B&B or family run establishments, they'll probably be closed.

There's no website that will break down what's open and what's not (as far as I know). Your best bet would be to just simply email/call where you want to go and ask.
