Avoid this hotel~!!! I booked here - at $220/night I might add.. because a client was across the sreet. They put me on the "mythical" executive floor - that's the "executive" floor that isn't the executive floor.. have to go to another floor for that... tiny room - one phone in room, and it not a two-line phone.. Tiny room - lots of things didn't work - ice maker on floor, lamp, etc.. told them at midnight I'd need another room for next night.. checked next morning at 6, they said to check back at 9, called in at 9 - too bad, they say. I say, fine.. no pblm w/ staff =- just the room and that I'll be checking out at noon. They tried to gig me for an early cancellation fee! Needless to say, I had to inform mgr that I wasn't inclined to pay for being dissatisfied - after tense conversation he "waived" the penalty fee. Went down two exits to the Doubletree Costa Mesa - cheaper, MUCH nicer hotel and room - nicer staff... Stay here if you're in the area and avoid the nasty airport Hiton.

Two nights later I'm at Del Mar Hilton - nice hotel but again, only a one-line phone - although there were at least two phones in the room - but this hotel has a real water pressure problem..

Tonight I'm at TorreyPines Hilton and it's terrific! High speed internet access - big room - incredibly customer-oriented staff - best experience in a long time and a big welcome after a solid week of travel.

Hope these tidbits help someone else...

jan-98 (before the Superbowl in San Diego, with my brother) SNA-airport-Hilton:

declined to have any reservation info, I have a print-out
first a one-bed-room and smoking (did change that)
had to fight to get breakfast credit/vouchers
did charge first a higher rate
lost one shirt in dry-cleaning
asked for 2 days to see a manager on duty (there is none)

This weekend was advised during check in @ Hilton SNA Airport that gold members would only have upgrades available if the hotel was at less than 50% occupancy . . . however there was an upgrade available to executive floor if one used the coupon that a silver member received after # of stays. Presented the agent with the gold amenities description off the internet. He adv was up to each hotel; this one used the 50% rule. I received the two breakfast coupons in my bounce back package . . nothing additional. I had also requested in notes when making the reservation a Sunday paper delivered to room and if not included in rate to deliver and bill room. Didn't receive same. Wrote letter to front desk mngr asking if the hotel participated in HHonors or not. Then, to top it off, my under the door bill had a daily parking charge on it, which was promptly removed. Waiting to hear from the desk manager so I know how to plan my next stay. The wake up call was prompt as was transport to/from airport. Somebody else was arguing with morning clerk about no paper when I left Sunday Morning.

I've stayed there a couple of weeks ago and was upgraded as a "Gold". The top two floors, 9 & 10 I think, are "executive" floors. Having stayed in both the regular rooms and the "executive" rooms there, I don't see much of a difference. It is certainly not worth any special effort at this property; save your argument for a more worthy opertunity. However, I think it would have been smart for them to upgrade you.
