I've hardly stayed at Starwood at all, but got two free Fridays almost right away earlier in the year.. used one in SFO w/ no problem whatsoever. I'm Gold w/ Honors, but it doesn't seem to mean a lot. At recent stay in JAX, wasn't given tower level, although room was available. I found this out later when I asked for access to the tower level as a gold member and told I'd have to actually be staying on the floor and would I like a room on that floor? Of course by then, I'd already unpacked. I've NEVER gotten an upgrade! I've updated my profile multiple times without the promised 1000 points for doing so.. I consistently have to wait weeks for stays to post, if they post. I was told at a Hampton Inn in middle of nowhere SC that I'd have to stay two nights or no nights because they were having an Iris Festival.. gold, schmold as far as they were concerned.. I can never get customer support on the line. The last time I did, after 25 minutes of constant dialing, they bonused me enough stays to reach Gold, although I was only a couple of stays short if they had had all my stays posted.. the auditing and lack of visible benefits are making me think I'll move on to Starwood. I really like Hilton hotels as a rule, but it's too much of a hassle.
