Mid-Atlantic - how come PHL doesn't have any Asian airlines?

I'm curious why PHL doesn't have any Asian airlines? I mean there's a decent Asian population in PHL and in the suburbs in PA and NJ area.

A big Asian population by itself isn't sufficient to generate enough profitable O&D traffic. What's required is enough business traffic. From what I remember of the PHL catchment area, the latter is far and few between so NYC (where there is the business traffic) and IAD is close enough.

Before the economy went south, US did have plans (and got approval I recall) to start service between PHL and PEK, but that plan got shelved.

Most people I know from PHL who fly to Asia, either take UA to ORD or fly out of EWR.
