Hi all,
I'm looking into a European vacation this August (sometime between 5-25 August), and I found out about the Palio horse race in Siena on August 16th.
Is it worth seeing this festival? And if so, does anybody have any tips? I guess I'd fly into Florence, and then day-trip it to Siena? Or should I book a hotel in Siena for the evening of the 16th?
And finally, are tickets worth it? Because, dayummm, apparently tickets for a seat at this horse race are around $700-800 a pop, with no guarantee of where you'll sit? I mean, last year I bought a ticket for a 5th row seat at the French Open final and that was $650 and I was OK with that, but at least that's frickin' world-class athletes playing championship tennis in a world-class venue... this is just a bunch of horses running in a circle around town! ;)
Thanks in advance for any advice.
