Please guide, advise me as I need your tips. As mentioned I have 8 month old twins and want to travel india around mid of october this year from canada, new brunswick. I have to do this round trip all by myself as my husband is not going with me. I have few doubts, questions/confusions?
1. Which airline will be able to allow me travel with twins from Canada to India?
2. Do I need car seats in plane? Are they allowed?
3. Will be given bassinet for babies or it depend on availablility?
4. I have double stroller, is that allowed? Will I be able to use it during stops for connecting flights or I need to buy different single stroller and keep one baby at my sholder in backpack?
5. What are the advises fromthose who alread travelled with baby or babies as this is going to be my first air travel?
Last but not least are there an charges for babies, although I am worried more to take them alongwith me than money part.
Looking anxiously for asnwers..
Thanks

1. Which airline will be able to allow me travel with twins from Canada to India?
You have to check with each airline. Air Canada requires one adult per infant. Not sure if this applies if you buy seats for both babies. You might want to ask, if you're willing to buy tickets for both of them.
Vague but I think you can on Lufthansa, if one baby has a seat. I included them because this airline serves both the Subcontinent and Canada quite well. Look into other companies too. I've flown LH many times between Frankfurt and California and they're good about accepting foreign car seats. Since you will have to buy a seat for one baby and bring at least one car seat, you need to check into this issue.
I don't recommend any British companies because they don't allow car seats that face backwards. An infant bucket-style seat would be easier for travel and they will refuse it. Also, Heathrow, where I worked for 6 years, is a very grim connection point!
You may have better luck with U.S. companies. If they do accept two infants for only one adult, they will require you to purchase a seat for one of the babies. You can't have two infants on your lap.
You might also want to consult twin-specific websites to get other ideas.
2. Do I need car seats in plane? Are they allowed?
Again, it depends on the airline. It depends on what the nationality of your car seats and the airline you'll be flying.
3. Will be given bassinet for babies or it depend on availablility?
You'll only get one bassinet.
4. I have double stroller, is that allowed? Will I be able to use it during stops for connecting flights or I need to buy different single stroller and keep one baby at my sholder in backpack?
Again, it depends on your airline. Most North American companies do return your stroller. Many European airlines wont and you'll have to get it at baggage claim, at your final destination (you'll have to make do on any layovers).
I don't have twins but my children are fairly close in age and I have three. I found it easier to use a good baby carrier and a single stroller but that's very individual. The dynamics with twins are different, I know. I did have a double stroller but never used it for travel.
5. What are the advise from those who alread travelled with baby or babies as this is going to be my first air travel?
Here's my non-commercial article, you might want to check out.
http://flyingwithchildren.blogspot.com
I also came up with about 90 various articles by googling "twins solo air travel".
Last but not least are there an charges for babies, although I am worried more to take them alongwith me than money part
Again, it depends on the airline you take. You will have to buy at least two seats, and I would recommend getting three. Much easier when you're outnumbered by your offspring!
Also, just as a tip, don't be "duped" by child fares. I've paid less without a child fare than I would have on an airline that doesn't offers it. Do the math. Get ALL prices. Don't eliminate any airlines just because they don't have a children's fare.
Another tip; airport taxes are now quite high. Every layover station will nap you for this. Keep connections to a minimum. It's both easier when you're flying alone with multiple children AND it will probably be cheaper too.

1. You will only be allowed to fly with one lap infant on every airline I know anything about. The lap infant usually has a ticket charge of 10% of an adult fare. You'll have to purchase a seat for the other child. Most airlines will allow you to fly with two infants, but check your carrier.
2. Car seats are allowed on planes, but you have to purchase a seat on the plane for the baby to be able to put them in the car seat. Your car seat must be approved for air travel.
3. As stated, you'd only get one bassinet; there are only a limited number, if any, on most flights and only a few seats on the plane that will accomodate them. Never any guarantee it would be available, or that your child won't be too big to fit in one.
4. I'm not sure what kind of double stroller you have. In any case, it will have to be checked, and I would never count on getting it back at a connection.
Highly advise you to look at booking on airlines that are more child friendly, and also recommend you purchase seats for the children. It will be much easier on this long flight.

You might want to rethink your plan and travel when your husband can go with you. Traveling to India from Canada with 8 month old twins sounds like a nightmare to me. Yes, it can be done, but there are a lot of logistical issues to think about.

Travelling with twins that young is a challenge even if two adults accompaning them. My wife and me were doing the FRA-SIN return a few times with our twins. After the first flight I must admit I really was horrified to fly again with them. It was a nightmare to us.
Only after they (recently) became 3 yrs old (and had their own seat) we were able to relax and sleep during the flight. We learnt that it is important to avoid dayflights on longhaul.
We (still) use our twin-stroller to bring along, we experienced no problems with Singapore Airlines to leave/recieve it at the aircraft door. But this maybe different with other airlines
A Basinet has Pro and Cons. After using them on three legs, we found them quite inconvenient. If the seatbelt sign is turned on you will have to take them out. This was happening frequently on the flights we made, with the effect that the twins always woke up. We were trying to fly mid-week when the aircraft was not entirely full and than we tried to secure two rows for the four of us. Usually we were successfull.

Since I am resident of in NB, Canada, I will be travelling with graco car seat and graco double stroller which I bought here. Now, I have researched and found that I can buy one baby's seat and can travel but am not sure of if they provide bassinet and will allow stroller in between any stops. So, what does one lap baby means? IS it that all the time while travelling baby is going to be on your lap and you can not even use bassinet, if it is so provided..then how are you going to clean other baby or go for even pee? Can we carry 2 car seats if we buy oen seat for baby..where will they allow us to keep other car seat..as I have seen during travel many seats are emty and although parents might be buyingly their own seats..their children of 3 or 4 year old age keep seated in different seats and keep playing while they enjoy seating in different empty seats.
Main question is if I buy one seat and one baby is going to be on my lap all the time then what if I have to go clean other baby?..

This is why taking this trip on your own with 8 month old twins is a very bad idea. You just can't safely take care of two infants on your own on such a long flight. How are you even going to carry two babies, diaper bag and other items, and one car seat on the plane by yourself? Who is going to watch your babies when you need to change one or use the restroom? I can think of a lot of other problems which you are going to encounter.
I suggest that you postpone your trip until your husband or someone else can go with you to help.

Please dont answer me as I dont want to be in useless arguements. I would appreciate if you kindly dont think or comment me anything. Thanks a lot!

My understanding of the bassinet situation (from what I've read, not experienced): They are offered only in the bulkhead position. You may not be able to get pre-assigned seats in the bulkhead on some/many airlines as these are often held for airport assignment. Therefore, you may not be able to count on having the bassinet. Besides which, there are size/weight restrictions, which I suspect your 1.5 year old will have exceeded.
Yes, lap baby means that the baby is held in your lap throughout the flight, except if the bassinet happens to be available, you can lay them there. However, even if the bassinet is available and your child will fit based on size/weight, I would imagine it to be a very bad idea to leave said child ALONE in the bassinet since a 1.5 year old would be mobile.
If you are set on doing a lap baby + 1 seat for the other child, there is nothing saying that you can't swap which child is strapped into the car seat if you need to change the other one. However, if you are the one who has to pee- I suspect you will have to take one of the twins with you to the restrooms.
The logistics of doing this with toddler twins is simply mind-boggling to me, though, and you are braver than me!

I was wondering should I reply or not. I get the impression that you are expecting answers you wish like to hear.
However I would like to suggest that you first check with the airline you want to fly with if they are allowing you to travel alone with two babies (I didnt find one on the route we usually are flying) . If you have found this airline, than you can start worrying about how to handle them on board.
Once again, from my own experience it is a true challenge to fly alone with twins. The first time I asked my sister-in-law to accompany my wife to bring our twins back home (they were 10 months old then). They were not able to get seats together and flight was almost full. The flight attendants assisted them happily when they needed to go to the toilet or during meals. But this was Singapore Airlines and I would not count on that with other airlines.
We were always able to get bassinet seats, but if the flight is full and demand for bassinets is high, the airline prefers to assign the bassinets to couples with one baby (for example Boeing 747= bassinet row has 4 seats/2 bassinets which fits 2 couples/1 baby each).
The bassinet I know can accomondate babies up to 80cm tall (and there is a weight restriction but I cant recall how high). It is not advisable to leave the baby alone in the bassinet. Theoretically the baby can be secured so that it not may fall out, but a 1,5 years old maybe able to open the cover.
The questions regarding carseats and stroller you should check with the airline you choose. Different airlines may have different rules.

1. Unless your child is EXCEPTIONALLY small for its age, there is no way you're getting or using a bassinet for a 1.5 year old. Period. End of story. Don't even factor a bassinet into your equation because it isn't going to happen. The average size for an 18m old is nearly 25 lbs and about 31 inches tall. There are no bassinets on ANY airline that can accommodate this size child.
2. Perhaps instead of sassing at people who are giving you very reasonable AND accurate answers, try to listen to what they are saying. You seem to be waiting for someone to tell you that the magic airline nanny is going to swoop in to care for one child while you're tending to the other one, but that simply isn't going to happen.
3. The comment in your quote that I made bold: "yes I will definitly will be able to make out everything with the help of everyone surrounding."...
Umm, no. People around you are not going to help you take care of your kids onboard an airplane, and you have no right to expect that they will and factor that into your plans. Hire a nanny for the trip. Your kids are your job and not anyone else's.
4. You said in your original post that it is more important to you to take your children on this trip than the money aspect. So buy them both seats and your problems will mostly (but not entirely) be solved.
5. Lastly, no one is "shutting a door in your face" as far as this trip goes. Not making it all easy and free for you does not equal "shutting the door in your face." You are technically entitled to buy two tickets + 1 lap infant for this trip, but no one is obligated to provide you anything special above and beyond that. How the trip works out logistically with a lap infant and possibly without a double stroller at your layover airport and so on are for you to evaluate and decide whether this trip is worth the hassle of those things. It's your choice to take the trip and not everyone else's obligation to make the trip easy for you. You have those two things very confused.

OP - people are merely pointing out facts to you. You state, "this is going to be my first air travel" and ask for advice traveling with two "infants" You got correct advice and you don't seem to like it. But, now you have provided additional information; that these will be toddlers, not infants at the time of travel.
Yes, no bassinets for your children, they will be too old and too large. Purchase a seat for each one of them and have them sit there in their carseats. At least they will be in a safe place. I cannot imagine holding a child on my lap for a flight that long. Your children will be at the age where most children dislike sitting still and want to roam around.
yes I will definitly will be able to make out everything with the help of everyone surrounding but I do not like your discouraging me
Why would you think total strangers on a plane will want to help you? No one surrounding you will be helping you. As pointed out, they are your children; if you take them on this trip, it's your total responsibility to take care of them, not for you to rely on strangers.
IME, most people around you will be trying to avoid you and will be very unhappy to be seated near two toddlers. No one is "discouraging" you. Merely providing accurate answers to your questions.
Speaking from experience, you won't find it easy to eat or drink anything, or to get a break to use the lavatory. I can't imagine trying to change their diapers. What are you going to do with one when you take that the other to the lav to change their diaper?
Of course you can do this. Will it be easy or fun? Can't imagine it would be. Would I do it? No. I have enough crazy in my life without actively seeking it out.

I hardly understand this post (what does living in Canada in the 21st century have to do with anything?) but if you don't want to hear opinions you don't like, then don't post queries on a public message board.
Personally, I think it is crazy to even consider such a trip on your own, especially now that you changed your story and the children will be 1 1/2 years old for the trip, not 8 months - an even harder age to manage on an airplane. I, and others, have pointed out the problems (not arguing) which will be involved. You are going to be quite surprised when you find that other passengers aren't going to work as your unpaid nannies on this nightmare flight. I pity the other passengers on your flight; I have a feeling that airline is going to be handing out a lot of FF mile to the other passengers for their complaints!
Good luck. You're going to need it.

Its useless telling him anything as he is arguing just for the sake of arguement and last word fight.lol..I really pity this person for he seems to be scare of kids as I have read his comments in other forums as well..but yes..I did need advice for the reason I need to plan and research about my trip which is not decided when? Also, I am not providing any additional information but I am just adding that I will go in the time when their will be best options favouring during anytime in next 4 months to 9 months. I am not relying on anyone but I know from my experience uptill now that airhostess and other crew staff is of very helping attitude but from this if you are making that I am expecting them to clean one baby for me that is too much..because If I am going to clean one baby and other is tied in car seat, I feel no one will feel harassed in just 5-7 minutes..If I am co passenger and if one mom needs me to watch their baby in car seat for 5 minutes I have no problem while sitting from my own seat or even going to their seat..and if a stranger has that much courtesy then no question that airhostess will refuse me..at least uptill now I met all crew people very nice and of helping nature..even getting involved in chatting with me ..at times..
but still till I dont face it, it is going to bother me all the time as what I am going to do in this situation or that situation..
I also feel that Canada is full of single mothers so do they not travel on their own on international or national flights? Do they never travel at all? I assume their might be some solution for such kind of situations..I cannot imagine that in such an advance era with all modernities will leave a mother of 2 helpless with no options!! I am getting all kind of replies from different airlines but still am waiting and reparing myself to see realities than to just imagine..
Thanks for straight talk..

:)Thanks for sharing your experience with me.
Again, What is your experience of cleaning your baby for diaper?
Do they not object if you carry any concentrate foods for babies in your backpack. I am talking about " Baby Gourmet" as it doesnt need any spoon and is very comfortable for even short trips..
Also, please tell me, Do you think it would be wise carrying a small notebook in my purse because I remember that for laptop they need to do a achecking and it takes time..
Did you find your children sleeping most of the time during travel as it vibrates and in air?
Did you find any kind of special reaction in your babies for the very first few minutes after taking off..
Thanks

Dear OP,
Remember this is a site filles with very experidenced flyers. Yes, we're parents but I'm sure not one of us hasn't been kept awake by a baby whose parents were disorganized and/or unprepared. Yes, it's a bit upsetting! Better to hear about it here than be yelled at or scolded by F/A's and other passagers while traveling!

Hi,
When I said with the help of surrounding people, I didnt mean that they are doing to work for me..I mean that they can watch my baby as a courtesy for 5-7 minutes when I am in washroom with another baby which is must situation..or do you want me to take both the babies in the washroom..lol..?

If someone would have told you this 20 years back, you would have never believed. Everything is possible. Yes, there can be be magic Nanny because you need to believe in magic. In case of no solution and rude people like you sitting all around me, I can hire best of them @$10/Hr or even $20/Hr. But I do believe in magic and more than that in humanity which I dont think many people does and thats why writing me like this!!

Hi,
I just overview your article today only and have added it in my favourites..will be able to comepletely read in few days as its very lengthy but did read many parts today. Its good and explanatory though not specifically on twins but helpful.
If expereinced flyers mean that they can be ill mannered and you advocating them then I better dont need their advice or listen to them. You can get deleted my post but I am not going to listen any bulshit from anyone just because they are experienced. They must have decency to talk. You must hold cyberhand but this should apply equally for everyone who are talking indecent not only for me that you advising me to listen anything.
Thanks
Dear OP,
Remember this is a site filles with very experidenced flyers. Yes, we're parents but I'm sure not one of us hasn't been kept awake by a baby whose parents were disorganized and/or unprepared. Yes, it's a bit upsetting! Better to hear about it here than be yelled at or scolded by F/A's and other passagers while traveling!
Some sites Will hold your cyber hand and tell you what you want to here but not on this forum! Have you read my article and checked on twin parent sites?

FYI, I am pure vegetarian and non smoker.
Good Luck caring your children and have a ginger, black pepper tea instead of smoke when you need cure. For better results you can add cardamom and dry or fresh basil leaves as well to make it MAGIC TEA. That will relax your boggling mind for sure! I bet you will love this tea and this is healthier than your smoke.

What is your experience of cleaning your baby for diaper?
Not quite sure what the question is. It smells?
One of us was going to change the diaper the other one watching no.2.
Do they not object if you carry any concentrate foods for babies in your backpack. I am talking about " Baby Gourmet" as it doesnt need any spoon and is very comfortable for even short trips..
We brought everthing on board from hot-water, baby food (bottled) to milk (liquid). At security in Frankfurt and Singapore our carry-ons were screened but no one objected to bring above on board. Our main concern was actually the milk as our twins are lactose-intolerant. The rest was anyway available on-board.
Also, please tell me, Do you think it would be wise carrying a small notebook in my purse because I remember that for laptop they need to do a achecking and it takes time..
To my experience you won't have time on-board to use it. The babies will keep you busy and when not you will take the opportunity to get at least a bit of sleep. You will need it.
Did you find your children sleeping most of the time during travel as it vibrates and in air?
No, not even on the nightflight. Within the 12hours on board we (the parents) missed both meals and I got about 4 hours of sleep. My wife isnt anyway sleeping much inflight so she tried to chill a bit.
We flew with them at age 10 month, 15 month, 23 month, 28 month and 3 years. At 3 years was the first time they sleep most of the time, about 9 to 10 hours.
Did you find any kind of special reaction in your babies for the very first few minutes after taking off.. No as the hole journey was new to them and they were in general very exicited.
When I said with the help of surrounding people, I didnt mean that they are doing to work for me..I mean that they can watch my baby as a courtesy for 5-7 minutes when I am in washroom with another baby which is must situation..or do you want me to take both the babies in the washroom..lol..? I would not count on that. Keep in mind you may need to change diaper while the other passengers around you are sleeping, the cabin crew is resting and both babies are awake.
From my experience I advise you to think thoroughly if you really can do this trip alone, it will be anything but a pleasure. Honestly I wouldnt dare after what we have experienced. Ask someone from your family to accompany you, it will really benefit the three of you (and your fellow passengers on board).
Our next trip will be in october and as we most likely will not travel together we are already considering asking my sister-in-law to accompany my wife again. Even we know that now they are much easier to handle ;)

Please guide, advise me as I need your tips. Looking anxiously for asnwers..
Thanks
You asked for tips, and you got honest answers. Sorry you don't like what you are hearing.
Thanks Everyone but I really do not appreciate indecent behaviour of "lost*in*cyberspace" writing me and stay as unwanted guest in my forum when I dont value for their advice as this person is not telling me their opinion but insisting me not once but repeatedly..(that tells his character) but I need valuable EXPERIENCED ADVICE.
I have not seen any "indecent behavior" from this poster; they appear to be giving you experienced and correct advice. You just don't like what you are hearing. This is not your forum. You start a thread and it takes on a life of its own. You don't control that.
:td:
You are not replying..You are satisfying your need to reply that you are very intelligent and you are always right.
I am sorry you are not and I dont need your advice. Do you understand that? This is public Forum but you must understand decent refusal
But in your first post, you asked for advice. Seems as if you want to ignore what you don't agree with. If you already knew it all, why did you ask the question?
I am not relying on anyone but I know from my experience uptill now that airhostess and other crew staff is of very helping attitude but from this if you are making that I am expecting them to clean one baby for me that is too much..because If I am going to clean one baby and other is tied in car seat, I feel no one will feel harassed in just 5-7 minutes and of helping ..
Well, actually you are saying you are going to rely on others to watch your children. And, IME, that just doesn't happen. The crew or other passengers are not there to help you. Many people will feel "harassed" if you expect them to help. If you can get to the lav, change a baby and get back to your seat in five minutes, my hat is off to you.
:)Thanks for sharing your experience with me.
Again, What is your experience of cleaning your baby for diaper?
It's a pain, especially if your child is fussy and doesn't want to cooperate.
Also, please tell me, Do you think it would be wise carrying a small notebook in my purse because I remember that for laptop they need to do a achecking and it takes time..
I don't know. What do you want to notebook for? You probably will not be able to use it on the plane, unless you've found the magic nanny to mind the children. You are going to take so much time getting through security on your own anyway, if you need your computer, you might as well take it.
Did you find your children sleeping most of the time during travel as it vibrates and in air?
Impossible to say what your children will do. Some sleep, some want to cry and walk up and down the aisles constantly. With two toddlers, think about what you will do if one is screaming, and one wants to walk up and down the aisle.

Yes, lying to people and telling them it will be easy and that crew and passengers will love taking care of their children is not of any help at all.
Hi,
When I said with the help of surrounding people, I didnt mean that they are doing to work for me..I mean that they can watch my baby as a courtesy for 5-7 minutes when I am in washroom with another baby which is must situation..or do you want me to take both the babies in the washroom..lol..?
Well, you may have to take both into the lav. You just don't seem to understand that some passengers are not going to want to watch your children at all. Yes, that is doing work for you; why can't you understand that? In the middle of the night, when everyone is asleep, I don't think you are going to get any sympathy if you wake them up to mind your children.
It seems you get hard time undestanding! I have no idea what this nonsense is about. But someone refusing to help you with your children would not be rude. You would be rude to expect them to do so.

What? People not wanting to serve as your unpaid babysitters again are not rude or ill mannered. People telling you that taking a flight this long, on your own with two toddlers will be very hard, and that you will be on your own is not indecent or rude or "bulshit". It's merely the truth.
I didn't realize you are the owner of FT. My mistake.
Have I told you that I love you lately?
I am owner of at least my page and If someone is talking rubbish, In order to avoid arguements I have right to refuse them politely which I did.
You need not be the king to expect respect.
You do not own this page. You have avoided no arguments. You have not been polite. You consider "rubbish" anything you don't want to hear. You will not receive respect until you give it to others.
When you find an airline that will let you fly with two toddlers on your own, and book your tickets, please come back here and post your flights so we can all avoid them.

Just as a point of information, as you have indicated that you wish to begin your travel in Canada, you will not be able to travel alone with two infants on board a Canadian airline as the Canadian Aviation Regulations (http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/regserv/cars/menu.htm) do not permit it:
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Can an adult travel with two children under the age of two? If not, why? (http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/standards/commerce-cabinsafety-tips-faq1-1112.htm)
For the safety of both the adult and the child, Canadian Aviation Regulations require that no person shall be responsible for more than one infant (children under the age of two).
As time is of the essence during an evacuation, it is very difficult to safely evacuate an aircraft in a timely manner while holding two or more infants. The aisle and row width as well as the dimensions of the emergency exit openings are the two major factors that inhibit a rapid egress.
605.26 Use of Passenger Safety Belts and Restraint Systems (http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/regserv/cars/part6-605-2438.htm#605_26)
(1) Where the pilot-in-command or the in-charge flight attendant directs that safety belts be fastened, every passenger who is not an infant shall
(a) ensure that the passenger's safety belt or restraint system is properly adjusted and securely fastened;
(b) if responsible for an infant for which no child restraint system is provided, hold the infant securely in the passenger's arms; and
(c) if responsible for a person who is using a child restraint system, ensure that the person is properly secured.
(2) No passenger shall be responsible for more than one infant.

About notebook..Why I asked that because I never carried laptop in cargo and it was always checked..I will need my laptop while in India but definitly not on flight..that would be joke as I know there wont be time with two little ones..but I think I will keep it it in Cargo once I finalise all things and decide when to go.
And I might go with one of our acquainted lady who lives in delhi...but I have to do my homework first so researching before hand..
I appreciate your suggestions..

:)I can go with two infants only in one case when I pay for one baby seat which is $1129-1247 ranging from different flights and this includes lap baby ticket of $114 as well...
I am getting buzzy people here in this forum and that makes me more alert about my trip..although they are not providing any helpful info..like if I have to carry a document of my husband (from the notary) that I can take both the babies with me and my husband has no problem...I thought experienced flyers will give me uselful tips but they have enought time to argue and fight with rude language instead of providing any useful tips or advice...I feel sorry that I came in this forum to encounter such people...

I presume that this would be with a US airline - I believe that there is no similar prohibition in the US. Continental Airlines does offer connecting flights out of Moncton.
I just wanted to make certain that you were aware of the Canadian rules that do not allow the practice and that no Canadian airline would be able to offer flights to a single passenger with two infants.
