Very personal dilemma: American Airlines or Lufthansa?

I have never flown American Airlines, but I consider flying with
them later this week (Amsterdam-London-New York-Miami-New
York-London-Amsterdam [AMS-LON-AMS operated by British Midland]).
Main reason for choosing AA would be Gold Challenge and their currently very cheap airfare
(~ $375 code MJPXNL). But what kind of service can I expect? United Airlines did not impressed me very much last time I used US carrier. So maybe is smarter just forget challenge, travel Lufthansa and collect some MP miles?
In case I stay with American - is it more comfy to fly their Airbus or Boeing 767?

Gold Challange? I'd go Lufthansa since their quite good, even with their current difficulties, which should end due to the Balkan ceasefire! Again, it is not very patriotic but my strategy is to take foreign carriers over US carriers whenever I can! As a rule, I find the food and service is usually significantly better. Here you get the mileage on UA anyway!

You didn't mention what class you plan to travel in, but LH has new 1st class beds which are very nice. AA is a long way from upgrading their fleet.

LH business class is pretty decent. LH coach sucks I'm told, but ditto for AA.

Coach class on LH is 'tight' especially if you have long legs. The in-flight food , too, leaves a lot to be considered. Unless you can upgrade to Biz class on LH, forget it.

I just recently flew overseas on Lufthansa for my first time. I flew in First Class on a Mileage Plus award which was an incredible experience. (However I like the beds in British Airways much better.)

Anyway, I took a peak into the coach cabin. The seats looked very comfy for coach. Also,
as someone else noted, the foreign carriers
always seem to have better service.

I think I would LH over American.
