Italy - Athens, Greece to Rome: Best way to travel

I booked an award trip to Athens next year w/my United Miles. Total fees came to $130 and 55k. I'll be there two weeks In August. Can somone shed some light on the best way to travel between Athens and Rome? I want to spend a few days in Rome while I'm there. My flight is in/out of Athens.

Change your reward ticket to an open jaw....into athens and out of rome...and then you'd only have to buy a one way between athens and rome. AZ and A3 (Agean) fly this route. Others too I'm sure

I also would recommend an open jaw award itinerary, returnng from Rome, and flying Aegean from ATH to FCO. That carrier offers some good low fares and is part of the *A along with United.

Another option is to look at ferry travel, but this would take considerably more time.

Easyjet also flies ATH-FCO.

I would definitely chose air over train or ferry. I've flown the route on Alitalia and it was a very cheap flight and short, too. I think barely 2 hours. As mentioned above, Aegean has great fares as well.

We've flown many times to Athens from Rome and always found easyjet had the best prices. Unfortunately, we always seem to book on the 06:40 flight out of FCO which meant an early moring! But these flights also have the best price.... even with home-to-airport fees.

I've decided to skip Greece and stay three weeks in Italy. Here's my flight information. I'll be there mid april - early may. of course I could always make a last second decision to catch a round trip to athens for a few days if I choose since i'm departing from Rome.

I'm thinking:

Venice 5 days
Pisa 1 day (day trip)
Florence 3-4 days
Rome 8-9 days
Naples 1 day (day trip)
Salerno 1 day (day trip)

going alone so if you think i'll get bored throw out suggestions on somewhere else.
