Hello AC friends

This probably belongs somewhere else, but I'll post it here (for now) because I value your opinion...

I fly in to IAD next Monday evening and flying out on the morning UA flight to LHR. I've never stayed at an IAD hotel so wondering what your thoughts are. My priority is to be in a good hotel as close to the terminal as possible.

Thanks for your input

For proximity, nothing beats the Dulles Airport Marriott, across the terminal from the parking lot. As to whether it is good, well, it’s a Marriott…

Marriott wins on location. Westin is newest. Hyatt is all (junior) suites, if space matters.

I stay at the Hyatt for the free breakfast, which is also included with their AAA rates, which are very competitive.

Call each of the major chains (Marriott, Westin & Hyatt) and speak with the front desk (not the 800 reservations #). Explain when you arrive and depart and ask for best rate. You may do a lot better than published Internet or what reservations quotes you. To me, makes no real difference given that you are near an airport in the middle of nowhere, so rate is the determinant. Definitely do not book through third party such as Expedia with a non-refundable rate. Flights and plans change, but once you've paid for a room through a third-party site, you won't likely see a change or your money back. Generally speaking, you can likely do in the $90-110 range.

There are lots of IAD hotels with their own shutle bus. Marriott is just okay, but it is the closest. Low rise hotel. Lots of walking.

Another vote for the Westin. New and clean with comfy beds.

As a self-proclaimed el cheapo myself, when I've had to overnight in IAD I've stayed at the Hyatt also...rooms are huge as stated and the buffet breakfast is quite good to if you want to get your value.;)

I had booked the Marriott but a friend told me last night it was a bit of a dump. I may try the Wesin for 7,000 Starpoints or look into the Hyatt.

Thanks!

Hi,

I quite like the hilton dulles airport ( it has a shuttle).

I stayed at the Marriott once overnight. It was ok ( lots of school children there on a school trip which made the pool crowded and a little noisy). The rooms and corridors were in need of renovation and as other posters have said as it is low rise it can be a long walk from the lobby to your room.

Regards

The Dulles Airport Marriott has been completely renovated over the last 2-3 years (rooms, halls, restaurants, etc.) I find it both convenient and comfortable. They also have the most frequent shuttle service of any Dulles-area hotel - every 15 minutes.
