Caribbean - Peter Island or Scrub Island?View Full Version : Peter Island or Scrub Island? sandycoflyer Jun 1, 11, 12:15 pm Has anyone been to either (or both)? Am trying to plan a 40th birthday trip for my husband. Would love feedback. jerseygirl Jun 1, 11, 5:17 pm I like the Bitter End on Virgin Gorda better than either mkt Jun 2, 11, 11:40 pm What time of year? slawecki Jun 3, 11, 7:25 am i have chartered a number of times in bvi and spent quite a bit of time at both peter island and bitter end. i have spent time at scrub island, but it really was scrub island then. it now looks like a 5* resort. with a grand hotel. i dislike bitter island. the employee attitude is really unacceptable. make certain you count your change and check your bill(really). this is as close as you can get to miami on the islands in my opinion. lots of people. on the other hand, i think peter island is the greatest place to visit one can go. it is very big. one can use the facilities even if parked in a boat. the cooking is quite good. the shuttle boat to road town is frequent. lot of good activities. good places to snorkel or swim. great beaches with no people. there is dancing at night. it is a high end adult resort. make certain wherever you go on bvi that it is not a cruise boat stop. bvi is hot almost all the time, and in the middle of the hurricane belt. we have ridden out at least a half dozen "troughs" and 2 hurricanes. we were delayed one day for a hurricane that did not come. peter island gets wiped out every few years from a hurricane. i have never heard of anyone injured from hurricane in bvi. flysfromPIT Jun 3, 11, 11:14 am Peter Island. ^ Linda VH Jun 6, 11, 7:20 am Peter Island! IslandGuy32 Jun 7, 11, 12:41 pm Are you wanting to go to the BVI's? If not I personally enjoy The Meridian Club http://www.meridianclub.com in the Turks & Caicos Islands to really get away from it all... sjames Jul 25, 11, 3:01 pm I've been to all. Scrub Island is clearly at the top of my list simply by is location. It is a beautiful new resort with fantastic views. Peter Island is nice but is limited in many things, the biggest is it is not close to other islands. Scrub Island guest gets can leave & return to the island every hour with the scrub island free ferry. I've stayed at Scrub Island Twice and can't wait to go back. SIN1K Jul 10, 12, 12:35 pm Where does the free scrub island ferry go to? sjames Jul 10, 12, 1:14 pm The Scrub Island ferry picks you up at Trellis Bay Tortola (WALKING DISTANCE FROM THE AIRPORT ) and takes you the easy 1 mile to Scrub Island. It runs every hour and is free ! Tortola is the main island in the B.V.I. We did several trips and left from Scrub Island. If you are a boater you may want to look into renting your own boat. slawecki Jul 11, 12, 7:16 am The Scrub Island ferry picks you up at Trellis Bay Tortola (WALKING DISTANCE FROM THE AIRPORT ) and takes you the easy 1 mile to Scrub Island. SIN1K Jul 12, 12, 10:39 am Good question. Do they rent boats on Tortola or Scrub Island? RacingJunkie Jul 14, 12, 2:33 pm Good question. Do they rent boats on Tortola or Scrub Island? Most of the boat rentals I have come across have been out of Road Town. SIN1K Jul 15, 12, 2:03 pm Where can I find information about renting boats on or near scrub island? rudling Nov 16, 12, 5:19 pm Where can I find information about renting boats on or near scrub island? I think there are a few operations that rent smallish powerboats or large dinghies. Most of them will operate from the south side of Tortola, whereas Scrub is on the north side (the "back side"). I like Island Time in Nanny Cay. There's also a rental place in Leverick Bay, and I seem to remember reading about one in Cane Garden Bay (which is on the back side of Tortola, tho quite a bit west of Scrub. There's a ton of vacation sailboat charter, however (and some large powerboat charter) in the BVI. It's probably the all-around easiest place to have a charter vacation, and I'd bet it has the largest charter fleet in the world. Personally I'm a fan of the bit catamarans, so I like the Catamaran Company and their Lagoon 500s. The Moorings is also a good place to start. |
