I'm flying from the US into Copenhagen Friday July 28 early in the morning and am looking for a hotel recommendation. My wife and I are going to stay for 3 nights and neither of us have been to Copenhagen before. Some of my considerations are:
1) A good location for a first time visitor
2) Likelihood of early check in considering I'm landing at 7:30 after a sleepless red-eye
3) Mid-upper range
4) Weekend specials at the business class hotels?
Thanks!

Thanks. I'll check those out. Also what's your opinion of the Clarion Mayfair? I forgot to mention that I want to be close to the Central Train Station so I can walk there Monday morning and catch an early train.

Besides the train from the Main station you also have easy access to the airport with the metro from Kgs Nytorv.
That said ,The Clarion Mayfair sounds like a cosy place judged on the reviews on Tripadvisor.
The Absalon Hotel is located close to the Central Station, in the bohemian Vesterbro neighborhood. They have this brilliant concept called Concept24, where you get the room for 24 hours from check in. So no problems with early a.m. check-in. They have a variety of packages: http://www.absalon-hotel.dk/sider/offers_230.aspx
Absalon is a cozy, family-run, 3-star hotel. Walking distance to most attractions, very close to Tivoli Gardens. Also close to the hip meatpacking district, which is now converting into a trendy bar and restaurant area.

try Priceline, you should be able to get the Marriott for 100 USD or so. IŽve used it half a dozen times.

I like the Absalon Hotel. Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately they are sold out. I just sent an e-mail to the reservation desk, but I doubt that will help. Oh well.
The area around the main station is not particularly nice. Sure it has been gentrified, but I would not stay there. It's much better to stay on the more upscale side of town toward Kgs. Nytorv.
My favorite hotel in CPH is the Hilton, although my purpose to visit CPH is not tourism. However, with the metro you are downtown in minutes. But I tell you, mid-range hotels, which can be quite expensive by international standards, are just not very nice and feature amenities like tiny rooms and not having a separate a shower stall, but having to wet the entire bathroom floor to take a shower.
I haven't stayed at the Marriott but I am sure it has international standards like the Hilton. (Ex-SAS) Radisson hotels are ok too. But watch out for these Arp-Hansen flophouses. And I guarantee you that anything around the main station, especially the back side down Vesterbrogade or, God forbid, Istedgade and its side-streets is not going to be nice. These are typically redone "mission" hotels or catered to the prostitution trade. You can only put so much lipstick on a pig.
I admit to staying in the Scandic on Hilton points when it was part of the chain. It's barely ok with poor remodeling of a 1970s tower that used to be a Sheraton. The Royal is of course in that part of town and an exception, but have never stayed there.
The suggestion to try to get the Marriott on Priceline is a good one.
The D'Angleterre should be nice too, but $$$$$.
p.s. Getting an early check-in at a larger hotel like Hilton is usually not a problem. (I usually have Hilton Gold though). I think it will be a problem with these smaller hotels.

dŽAngleterre just closed down for the next year or so, as it will be undergoing a major facelift.

In CPH I stayed at the Hilton which is connected to the terminal via a tunnel. It was a nice hotel and had (obviously) easy access to the airport and just as easy access to the metro which gets you downtown in minutes on a very modern train. As the Hilton is an airport hotel, they seem quite accustomed to odd check-in / check-out times.
By the train station itself I noticed an SAS Radisson Blu (http://www.radissonblu.com/royalhotel-copenhagen). I didn't go inside but it seemed OK from the outside.

The Radisson Blu Royal is a design icon, designed by Arne Jacobsen in the 1950s. Not only did he design the hotel, but also iconic furniture such as "The Egg" and "The Swan" is designed for the Royal. Also cutlery and a bunch of other stuff was designed especially for this hotel. Room 606, also called the museum room, stand exactly as when the hotel was inaugurated.
I have stayed at the hotel a few years ago, and while I sometimes recommend it, it is mostly because of the design. Rooms are small, especially single rooms, and I also find it expensive compared to the competition. When I stayed there, they were still Radisson SAS, but they refused to upgrade me as EBG (EuroBonus Gold elite). "Other Radisson SAS hotels do that. We don't" was their reply, despite this being a status benefit of the program!

My wife and I just went throught his same exercise, first time to CPH, three nights tourists in late June. After reviewing some thirty hotels, we chose the Kong Arthur, upper end but not excessive in a nice neighborhood. I believe you can take the subway to the train station from there. Check it out.

Well, it's by Norreport so you should take the metro and not the train.
I checked a random weekend day in June and it's DKK 2200 non-refundable and 2600 regular price. That's more than the Hilton. No thanks.
I had another great stay at the Hilton last week. They always let me check out at 3-4 pm. And when I lived in the US and arrived at 7:30 am on SAS they always let me check-in early. I have been Hilton gold but not always.

I have thought about staying there but the prices are always high and I heard about the small rooms. I was also afraid that the hotel was going to be disappointing due to its age but believe it was renovated recently.
BTW, the Hilton has lots of Egg and Swan chairs and other furniture made by Fritz Hansen. They actually had lots and lots of Eggs in the lobby but replaced some of them and installed some newer Fritz Hansen furniture (made by contemporary designers) recently.
