I'll be arriving in to Barcelona on July 24th and departing on a cruise on the 25th, returning to Barcelona on Aug 6th for 2 days before departing on the 8th back home. Can anyone recommend some reasonably priced (<$150USD) hotels for pre & post-cruise stays? I'll probably just take it easy the day before the trip but on return I'd like to get out and explore Barcelona a bit before I head home.

I do not have a special recommendation, but if you compare hotel rates in Barcelona with US-rates, you should be aware, that rates there usually include all taxes and very often also breakfast.

On my past cruises, I met folks who stayed at the Hotel Majestic and Hotel Jazz. -- Jazz is closer to Placa Catalunya. I recall the Majestic as being on Passeig Gracia close to the Gaudi building (skull terraced.)
Have you considered looking on cruise critic re other cruisers' hotel choices for Barcelona?

Yup, I've signed up with CruiseCritic and will check there.
With a recent $25 off promotion on Expedia I went ahead and booked the Hilton Diagonal Mar for my 1 night pre-cruise stay. I think I'll probably go with TripAdvisor recommendation and stay at Villa Emilia on my 2 nights post cruise.
Thanks All!

Jogging my memory: we had stayed at this property when it first opened. We were going on a Canary Island BCN - LIS itinerary, the local fishermen blockaded the ports of Spain and our cruiseline (Crystal) found rooms at the Hilton to accommodate us land stranded cruisers. Nice rooms, morning breakfast in the conference rooms.
There is a nice shopping mall across the street Good restaurants, snack/cafes... A short walk to a metro station to take you into city central. Easy to use the local transportation or grab a cab.

Thanks 8dimsum, good to know it's a decent property at which to stay. Should work out well for jet-lag recovery and then an easy trip to the cruise port the next day.

mikelat: I lost a post re BCN, so I'll try again.
DH found Hotel Continental Palacete (Ramblas de Catalunya), it is kitschy redone palace that houses the hotel above the retail shops (shoe store, jewelery store). There is a demi-lift to get up to the mezzanine (OK for luggage) or climb the stairs. The rooms are different sizes and all have ensuite bathrooms, glass paneled wardrobes, and a small microwave setup. Pink, bubble-gum moire fabric is the decorators choice for upholstering the place! Kitschy!
Included in the room rate is a 24 hour snack buffet+ drinks, juice, red/white wine dispenser, coffee expresso machine; staff usually prepares a couple of quiches, a meat dish, a basket of hard boiled eggs, and fresh salad greens for breakfast. cut up fruit, yogurt... are part of the snack buffet.
After a long day's tour of the city, it is nice to grab a cold drink, sit in the gorgeous salon with the chandelier and massive facing mirrors or sit out on the tiny balconies overlooking the street scene and feel the breeze.
The place has a free computer with wi-fi for guests near the salon. Also taxis can easily be found parked at curbside in front of the place.
1/We have stayed here 3 times. Nice location- close by transportation including the HOHO buses. Many eateries, tapas, sidewalk cafes...
Enjoy your time in Barcelona! and have a wonderful cruise.
