Firstly ...apologies ...not sure if this post belongs in this forum....
I have a question relating to pregnancy .... I am a British citizen ... currently living and working in Romania ... My girlfriend and I are expecting a little girl :-) ... We intend to visit the UK ... If my GF goes into Labour during our trip, my understanding is that she will be treated at hospital free of charge as she is an EU citizen (Romanian) ... is this the case ?
Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance :-)

Not necessarily. NHS charges for people from abroad (http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/your_family/health/nhs_charges_for_people_from_abroad.htm)

Thank you SilverFox ... I looked at the link you kindly posted ... My GF is a resident of a EEA country paying NI contributions here ... so it would appear that those criteria are satisfied ....
I am just looking for some reassurance tbh ... we have looked into the possibility of taking out an "insurance policy" to cover us for this eventually I described above ... however it would appear such a thing does not exist ... unless someone can advise me differently?
Again, thank you in advance for any information or advice that anyone can share.

Insurance is for unforeseen events... I think you'd have trouble arguing that giving birth was "unforeseen" for a pregnant woman...:D
Good luck with it all anyway!!! ^

If it's considered preterm labor she'd likely be covered under a medical rider on a trip insurance policy. When we travel abroad we always buy a policy which acts as primary coverage. You can get it cheaply if you claim your non refundable amount is low. We do this because we only care about the best medical coverage. The last one I bought did have emergency pregnancy coverage. But I live in the states not the EU so I have no idea what is available to the OP. My best advice is to shop for a policy that will serve as primary coverage and is with a company whose financial stability is highly rated by whatever rating company is in your country (AM Best stateside). Be sure it includes medivac coverage back to you home country (premies needs lots of cords and stuff that commercial airlines aren't capable of transporting).

Many thanks to you :-)
I am 99.9%$ sure we are covered without cost by UK legislation ... but it's that .1% that is making me paranoid

When we bought trip insurance for the medical coverage we only declared $200 in non refundable expenses. The policy cost about $90 for the both of us (that's maybe 60 euros or so). I'd say that's well worth the piece of mind where a baby is concerned. So just shop for trip insurance and compare based on the medical coverage.
