Does it give rewards points on a US hotel chain? Can't figure from their website Which Copacabana hotel are you staying at? If you meant the Copacabana Palace, they are member of the "Leading Hotels of the World" chain (www.lhw.com) drdomore May 29, 11, 7:03 pm Yes, it is Copacabana palace. The site you recommend requires an annual membership fee - not worth it in my opinion jefi99 May 30, 11, 2:11 am Copacabana Palace has recently joined the Orient-Express, which again is part of the LHW. They are, to my knowledge, not member of any other loyalty schemes. If your rate does not include breakfast, it might be worth it to join the LHW Leaders Club for the fee of US$100. It also include a few other benefits. However, I do admit it doesn't seem to be the best loyalty program in the world! SoCal May 30, 11, 9:10 am Their Web site gives an e-mail address for reservations. You could write to them to confirm details of any programs to which they belong. They get a lot of foreign visitors, so writing in English should not be a problem. A few years ago, I saw Pierce Brosnan standing in the lobby entrnceway. I did walk through the lobby, and around the pool, just last week. Your employer puts you up at the Copa Palace? Wow. Big spenders. Evenf or one of the smaller, less fancy, rooms towards the back of the building (where I once stayed). The restaurants are expensive, but you can find several others in the area. And if you want to really economize getting around, there is a Metro station 2 blocks away. I personally would hesitate to swim in Copacabana or Ipanema, due to pollution, but many do. And even if you don't go swimming and just wade a bit or lie on the beach, the scenery (human and otherwise) is excellent. jbcarioca May 30, 11, 10:30 am The Copacabana Palace is my favorite in the area. Their pool offers excellent conditions. The restaurants are outstanding. Cipriani is one of the best in the city and not more expensive than others in the class. (Gero, Olympe, Le Pre Catalan...). It is owned and operated by Orient Express but a member of LHW, as people note. Membership in LHW is worth it just for breakfast if you stay in LHW very much, and you also invariably are upgraded, if you reserve on the LHW site. If it is points you want in Copacabana there is the Sofitel at posto 6 and the J W Marriott at about posto 4 IIRC. That is it for points. The Copacabana Palace if better than any other in Copacabana. |
