New England - Beachfront chain hotels in New England?
May 27, 11, 10:31 am
Mrs User Name and I had our first child back in January and are already planning ahead and thinking about a 2012 Summer vacation. We decided that a beach vacation is probably a nice, relaxed thing to do with an 18-month old and so we're now trying to decide where to go.
We have a fair number of points in the Marriott, Starwood, Hilton and Priority Club programs (and plenty of time to acquire more) so we were wondering whether anyone has any recommendations of any good properties in these chains that are adjoining (or very close to) beaches anywhere in (or close to) New England?
Thanks in advance.

They are surprisingly thin on the ground in New England. Most oceanfront / beach resorts are independent inns.
There is a Four Points by Sheraton at Eastham on Cape Cod.
There's a Sheraton by the harbor in Portsmouth, NH... a short northerly drive to Maine beaches. There are Hampton Inns in Ogunquit and Saco, Maine, handy for the Maine beaches also but less luxe obviously.
In Freeport, Maine, north of Portland and home to LL Bean, there's a good Hilton Garden Inn. By the time you get that far north, though, the coast is rockbound, not beachy.
I don't know of much in terms of chain hotels on the coast north of there.

Not on the beach, but there are a couple hotels in the old port of Portland. A Hilton Garden Inn and a new Marriott Residence Inn. If you like going out to dinner and such, it would be convenient to walk for dinner and to all the shops. You would need to drive to any beaches in the vicinity, but that is not uncommon up here due to the coastline and such - and most are indeed private inns/resorts. The ferry to some of the islands is also right next to those hotels.
If you want beach recommendations in Portland, let us know.

I love the Wentworth by the Sea (http://www.wentworth.com/) outside Portsmouth. It is part of the Marriott family. However, while you can see the ocean, it is not on a beach.

Not on the beach (which is what most of the chains in New England will be prefaced with) there is a Hilton in Mystic, CT. That is close to the Aquarium and the Seaport, and there are certainly beaches within driving distance. Beach chains are very few and far between.

Thanks all for your help. ^
I've lived in New England for a few years and have traveled round a fair bit, but only really paying attention to Mariotts. I've stayed at the RIs in downtown Portland and Portsmouth, and also in Mystic (just across from the Hilton). I also spent a nice long weekend at Wentworth by the Sea - and agree it's great. Not being as familiar with IHG and Hilton property locations (and knowing that SPG are few and far between) I was wondering whether I was overlooking somewhere that had a beach location. It looks like I'm not. :(
I don't mind driving a bit so I've posted a similar inquiry in the Mid-Atlantic section of the forum (an area I have very little knowledge of) on the off-chance someone can give me any pointers there.
Probably not what you want, but other Cape Cod chain properties are a Holiday Inn and a Courtyard in Hyannis, and a Hampton Inn in West Yarmouth. I've stayed at all three and the Hampton Inn is the nicest followed by the Courtyard. There's also another Holiday Inn in Falmouth, which I know nothing about.
The Four Points Eastham, which someone already mentioned, is closer to the beaches I like, but I don't care for that property.
