I am not sure if this similar question has been raised before but I will be flying from FRA to SIN via HKG and knowing that LH738 on time performance history are not very good, I wonder if the scheduled 1:20 connecting time will be sufficient for transfer between two different airlines in HKG.

FRA - HKG on LH738
1:20 hour
HKG - SIN on SQ891

(if it help, I will be flying in LH-F and SQ-J)

MCT @ HKIA is 60min, and 50min if it's within CX and KA

I need some advice from you expert members.
I just been advised by Air Canada that there is a schedule change for my LH738 flight. The 'safe enough' original 80 minutes connection is reduced to 40 minutes at HKG. I know that this connection time is below the recommended minimum connection time for HKG, but is it possible to connect in 40 minutes at HKG between these two airlines?

This is what stated on my AC reservation:

LH738* Frankfurt, Frankfurt Int'l (FRA)
Fri 16-Dec 2011
17:35 - Terminal 1
Hong Kong (HKG)
Sat 17-Dec 2011
11:10 - Terminal 1
First Class

Airport change from Hong Kong (HKG) to Frankfurt (FRA).

LH738* Frankfurt, Frankfurt Int'l (FRA)
Fri 16-Dec 2011
18:00 - Terminal 1
Hong Kong (HKG)
Sat 17-Dec 2011
11:50 - Terminal 1
First Class

SQ891* Hong Kong (HKG)
Sat 17-Dec 2011
12:30 - Terminal 1
Singapore, Changi (SIN)
Sat 17-Dec 2011
16:20
Business Class

Yet, another problem:
I have another connecting flight to CGK on the 17-Dec with the unchangeble revenue LH790 flight depart SIN at 18:00.

There are no other alternate F award availability that I can currently see, which will connect me to my LH790 on time.

Can anyone give me a light in regards to the trouble possibility for this 40 minutes connecting time?

Thank you.

Without checked baggage if the flights are on time and you have your onward boarding pass then you should be OK. But a 10 minute delay will make it unlikely, and 15 minutes pretty much impossible.

Even at 40 minutes it's fairly unlikely checked baggage would make it, and any significant delay probably means it won't.

@Christep
Thanks for the info. I think I will take my chance and will be wearing my running shoes. It does not concern me about the checked baggage as long as the airlines will not loose it and send it to me in a timely manner ^

Question though:
in case if I misconnect the Singapore flight for a rewards seat like this, will sq book me a seat on their next SQ flight to SIN upon the actual 'seat availability' or based on their 'award seat availability' as of my status with *A?

If single ticket, then misconnect is an INVOL reroute, which will be on the next SQ flight. For separate tickets, it is a voluntary reroute as HKG is your origin, and SQ will put you on the next flight with award space available. Depending on your status yield mgmt may open up award inventory for you, but varies.

SQ has 7 daily dept HKG-SIN, why don't you just take the next connection. HKG is not a bad place to spend a couple hours in.

I have the same connection at HKG in Dec too. Will be arriving with TK to HKG arriving before 3pm and onward to SIN at 18:30. I could have tried the 45 min. to 1 hr connection with the next SQ flight (I think there is one at around 4pm) so I can try the A380 but I don't dare.

I am flying RT into HK in a couple weeks, but while I am there I will be stopping over in SIN and BKK, the only way I could work it out is to leave BKK the same day of my return flight home from HKG-SFO. I am on the first flight out of BKK on Air Asia in the AM around 6 am I believe and i gets me into HKG at 10-10:30, my UA flight leaves at 12:45 PM.

Will I be okay on getting to my flight? I have a 22inch carry on bag that I know qualifies fine for the United flight, but not sure if they will allow me to carry that on to the Air Asia flight from BKK-HKG. If I cant carry it on, is it gate checked or checked to HKG for claim?

Worst case scenario to claim the bag, is the 2:30 enough time to make my connection? Is Air Asia generally on time the first flight of the day?

2:30 is plenty of time, regardless of luggage situation.

If you are able to bring your 22" carry-on bag onboard the FD BKK-HKG flight, then you should be able to check-in/retrieve your boarding pass at the UA Transfer Desk in HKG without the need to exit to the check-in counters on landside. Otherwise, you'll have to clear immigration, pick up your checked bag from the FD flight, and then recheck-in for the UA flight.

And be aware that if the FD flight is late, you're on your own and FD has no liability because these are two separate tickets.

Currently booked SIN-HKG-SFO with 1hr 20m in HKG.

I am considering leaving SIN the evening before, having dinner in HKG than not rushing to the airport for the 12:50pm HKG-SFO. This avoides the eadly wake up call in SIN too.

Is 1hr 20min enough time for the connection as it is. What would you do?

Thank you,

Im considering a leap of faith and trying to connect from TK 70 arriving 16.40 to Airphil Express flight departing 18.20. 1h 40min connection. I will be flying J with TK and the cut off time for baggage check in is 45min for Airphil Express. So i would have 55mins for immigration + picking my luggage and moving to Airphil Express check in counter. Any chance i could make it or should i just leave my luggage home(i wouldn't want to) or just stay the night at some of the Airport Hotels and travel the next day(wouldn't want that either)?

According to flight stats, TK70 is on-time or early many occasions. So with this in mind I think you can make it through OK. Bags almost always come out quickly in HK, particularly if you're flying business since they're tagged priority.

My only concern would be the line at immigration, which at times can be 30 minutes long, but the time your flight arrives is before all the big overseas planes come in, so you should be ok there too.

Thank you for your answer. My main concern is also the immigration. I have been to HKG few times but can't remember if there's fast track for business class?

There's no fast track that I know of. I most recently came back on South African business class, and wasn't told about anything like that.
