I am looking at a conference in Belo Horizonte, MG, and would be there for about a week. I'd sure like to get some hotel frequent-stay points while there, or if not possible, make sure I have a nice place.
(Nice to me means safe, clean, comfortable... a good pool would be a plus. I can probably go with anything under $200. Not sure yet if it will just be me, or if my wife will be joining me.)
Any suggestions?

It is not good news when the best hotel in the city is a Mercure, but IMO that is the case in Belo. You can get Accor points too.

There are a couple others that are meant to be better, notably the Ouro Minas, but it is tired and decrepit. The management of the Mercure really tries hard, and it is clean and nice. The rooms are quasi apartments, so fairly spacious.

Belo Horizonte is a big city, so it might depend on the location of your conference where you want to stay.
I have stayed in a lot of hotels in the Savassi neighborhood, which is very nice with lots of bars and restaurants. The hotels are not up to US standards and have become very expensive in the last few years.
Promenade is a chain with upscale apartment style accommodations. The price reflects how nice each one of them is. I've also stayed at Liberty Palace Hotel which is just a regular hotel room, but pretty nice. At least it was a few years ago.

Thanks for the info, all. (The conference is at the Minascentro.)
