Hi, can anyone enlighten me about the facilities in first class on Italian intercity trains? ie if I take a 10 hour overnight train trip from Sicily to Rome in first class will the seats recline so that I can sleep?

There're 2 services: the proper IC and the ICN.
The latter is equipped with beds and such.
Which one you've been eyeing?
As per trenitalia.it descriptions, ICN includes:
"2nd class service
1st and 2nd class couchettes service
2nd class couchettes"

If it is the direct train #1936 getting into Rome at 7:08am, that is ICN.
