Joe Butch May 24, 11, 6:05 am I'm heading to the Big island in 5 weeks, and your video just got me so excited!! Nice. Thanks. Ancien Maestro May 24, 11, 9:00 pm Joe Butch.. Awesome Video.. Loved the underwater shots and the lava flows into the oceans.. Good to see that you guys hit the Beach Tree Four Seasons Hualalai.. unfortunately, they were closed for us this last spring break out.. but their Surf Sand and Stars is both my wife and I's favorite meal all time.. We just booked for next year.. the shots reminded me of why we've been going to the Big Island for the last 8 years..^ Joe Butch May 24, 11, 10:10 pm The Lava tour was an amazing experience but also I can't think of a moment I was more scared in my life. As you can see from the video we sat in the front of the boat. Leaving at sunrise we went through the surf hitting 8+ft waves. (which the captain later mentioned was a good day) 8+ ft waves in the middle of the night is really really scary. I felt like I was in the movie the perfect storm without the storm. The first major wave my wife and I flew out of our seats 3-4 feet almost hitting the ceiling and got slammed down back into the chair (wife hit the floor). I thought I broke a rib/back. After that every wave afterwards was extremely painful. Allegedly the back of the boat is like a cadillac. Looked like from that video of yours.. that was the highlight of your trip..;) Spring Break, the lava wasn't flowing, although on March 5th, a mile and half rift broke open.. That's neat that you're in the boat, and all the lava is flowing into the ocean bright red.. a phenomenon of a sight really.. So on your helicopter tour.. how much did you pay? Looked like it was Blue Hawaiian helicopters you guys took.. but there's a few blue helicoptor companies out there.. How long was the helicoptor ride? Did you guys make it up to Mauna Kae summit? We paid approximately $180 per person IIRC. I was a little disappointed with the helicopter. I thought i'd see a lot more lava. The helicopter is more to see all the dried lava and the craters. Seeing some orange is just an added bonus is the way you have to look at it. petep Jun 7, 11, 2:16 pm Great Video Joe! Gotta ask. What cameras did you use? We were also deciding whether or not to do the heli tour on BI but after reviewing these boards (And this post :) ) we may opt for a heli tour on Maui instead (thx for sharing your experience!). Joe Butch Jun 8, 11, 7:54 am Great Video Joe! Gotta ask. What cameras did you use? We were also deciding whether or not to do the heli tour on BI but after reviewing these boards (And this post :) ) we may opt for a heli tour on Maui instead (thx for sharing your experience!). I used a Canon t2i DSLR camera and a GoPro hero camera. The footage was also color corrected a bit. No problem. Thanks for the comments.
