I just wanted to ask whether anyone has stayed at the Swissotel The Howard in London?
Obviously it´s not in the same league as the Savoy, but it does have some decent rates every now and then.
In particular I´d be interested to hear any feedback about the Riverview rooms...
Thanks in advance!

I stayed there a number of times and generally enjoyed it, with two notable exceptions, one when the laundry truck apparently broke down en route to the hotel and they wouldn't process any checkins, and the other (my last stay) when construction noise repeatedly awakened me at 700 am, notwithstanding the hotel's promise that it would not begin until 900 am. In neither of those cases was the problem handled well by the hotel.
The rooms are a decent size for London, there are Lavazza coffee machines in all of them, there is no gym on site (they will comp admission to a gym outside the hotel, but it's not the closest one), and one of the concierges was very helpful to me. I know I've stayed in a riverview room once or twice, but honestly don't remember it.

I was there last summer. Twice. Had very good stays. Rooms were good sized. Service was generally very good. I rather like its location, close enough to walk to most things, but not quite on main streets so it's quiet. Restaurant (Temple?) was very good.
Did not have Riverview room though. Had a King Advantage room. No view of river, but very nice.
I'd go there again next time in London.
Also interested in others feedback. Have a stay booked in a few weeks, but was considering hotwire/priceline. Have the Howard booked for 179 GBP per night, which I think is a pretty good deal.

A chunk of FTers have stayed at this property in 2006 and 2007 on bookings made in 2006. For 45 GBP per night it was an excellent deal. I had weeks and weeks booked there. :)

Even at 2-4 times that price, it's a very good property although I wouldn't say service is anything extraordinary even as it's perfectly acceptable for me.

Told today that hotel is closing after Christmas - not sure if closing or leaving Swissotel. I do know that they will not honour my booking for a terrace suite for 2 nights over NYE for £550 + VAT. After the mess up I had getting the booking agreed at the beginning (told room wasn't available when was bookable online), this wouldn't make me stay at a Swissotel.
With 2 other hotels booked for other members of the family, not sure what to do as no room with view of Eye going to be available, at least not below £1000.
Any ideas?

They told me today the hotel is closing at the end of September, and will be replaced by apartments.
