I'm flying to SEA in Aug for a cruise w/friends.

I arrive on Sat and the cruise is on Sun.
Friends arrive on Sun about 6hrs before cruise. i was going to do this but posters here recommended that i fly in on Sat just in case.

Recommendations for a hotel, preferrable with free shuttle to the pier?
if not free shuttle to pier, how about free shuttle to airport so i can meet up w/friends? (we get a taxi to goto the piertogether instead of looking for each other at the pier.)

Other recommendations?
Thx!

VERY smart to arrive on Saturday. Try to convince your friends to do the same.
Here is the cruise schedule so you know which pier you are leaving from, that can help determine where you want to find a hotel.

Recommendations depend on which pier you are using (depends on the cruiseline). If you are at Pier 66, Marriott Waterfront is directly across the street from the pier.

Also try here (http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newport.cfm?ID=52).

As mentioned above, a day early is very smart. Seattle is a great city in which to spend a little time.

Our Travel->West forum has lots of threads and info re Seattle. I'll move this there. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz.

[Last summer, we took the Victoria Clipper from a Seattle pier not far from the cruise piers, stayed at the Westin, and it was a 6 min./$7 cab ride. Pretty much all the central downtown Seattle hotels are a quick ride away, so long as you avoid the peak rush hour traffic.]

About a 5 minute walk from the Marriott Waterfront in Seattle is the Edgewater Hotel (http://www.edgewaterhotel.com/). It's the only hotel that is actually on the water (it's on a pier) and you can get either a city view room or one with Puget Sound right below you. I stayed there back in March of 2010 and it was a decent place...

We stayed at the Marriott a couple of years ago and it's fine. We stayed at the Edgewater 15-20 years ago and it was fine then. There's also the Inn At The Market (http://innatthemarket.com/) at Pike Place Market. It's been well reviewed but I've never stayed there.

As noted earlier, the new light rail connection to the airport could be very convenient for you.

There are two cruise terminals, Pier 66 (Norwegian, Celebrity) and Pier 91 (everybody else.) The waterfront Marriott and Edgewater hotels are easily walkable from Pier 66; all other downtown hotels will be a $10 - $15 cab ride.

There are no hotels within walking distance of Pier 91, and the topography/road layout at Pier 91 mitigates public transportation (sky bridges, many stairs, very hard with luggage.) A taxi from downtown hotels will be in the $15 - $20 range.

A few hotels, e.g. the Silver Cloud Stadium (across from Safeco Field) say they will shuttle guests to the terminals, but AFAIK none of the big-name hotels (Hyatt, Hilton et al) will do so from downtown.

The light rail is easily doable for those staying at hotels close to the stations (none near the waterfront.) However it was not designed as a transit system particularly conducive to pax with lots of luggage, so if you choose to use it go get downtown, and have typical quantities of cruise luggage with you, think twice.
