I was wondering if it's possible to do Zugspitze and Neuschwanstein & Hohenschwangau Castles the same day?
I thought maybe we'd arrive at Zugspitze when they open at 8:40 AM, arriving from Innsbruck, going up from Ehrwald, Austria and taking the cable car up. If I allow two hours, then that places us leaving Zugspitze around 10:30 PM, and then add an hour drive time to Hohenschwangau, and upon arrival, visit both castles. Assuming we'd maybe arrive Hohenschwangau around 11:30 PM and hopefully thereby leaving us from 12:00 PM to close at 5:30 PM tour the castles. Although with the tours only lasting 30 min, it might not take that long to visit the castles. Then, we'd overnight in nearby Fussen.
So, I was wondering if my logistics are doable, or if there's something I am not aware of that might affect our times and durations. Of course if the weather is poor, then no need to visit Zugspitze. Plus, at about 35 euro each, it does seem expensive for a 10 min. ride to the top, yet it's something I think I'd like to do. I guess I just love mountains. Also, I am sure it's a great view on the top on a clear day, but other than taking in the view, is there anything else to do at top that might take more time than I've allowed?
Thanks for any thoughts on if my described itinerary above would work, or am I missing something?
