Alitalia MilleMiglia - BOS FCO new AZ metal June 2011?

Traveling BOS/FCO June. I have seen new AZ metal at BOS recently. Is it just new paint or a new A330 with 3 classes of service? Any insight on upgrading or using skymiles on AZ is appreciated. delta.com and phone are ok - but no results. Does AZ sell same day upgrades like VS? Maybe that is asking too much... Thanks!

I believe you can get a same-day upgrade, although it's all very new and I can't give you any details on that.
I'm afraid however that the Alitalia logo is just fresh paint on the old 332's, and no change of plane is planned at the moment for BOS-FCO.

Ciao. Unluckily, what you have seen in Boston is the old AP 330, repainted and with some fixes on the seats but not reconfigured with the new magnifica class, so I would advise against business unless it is really cheap.

You can tell by trying to book: if it says the metal is A332, it is the old plane. If it says A330, it is the new plane.

You can NOT upgrade on AZ using Skymiles.

AZ does not sell same day upgrades except on the "Classica Plus" (premium economy).

Grazie Stefano! I just grabbed two coach award seats on 6/7. Had to call as no AZ inventory on delta.com. Not sure what seats sit in...hopefully the load will be light. Will report.

Call also to get pre-assignment of seats. Unluckily exits cannot be preassigned but you can check in 24 hrs ahead of departure and secure them for a small fee.

Sorry I took so long to post this reply but our trip on AZ in June was super! We lucked out and got a new A330 for BOS/FCO. No one was selling upgrades but the service and video system was great in coach - made the trip go fast.

The return was on the old metal - packed full! But again the service was very professional - no seat back screens but plane was clean (very important as I can not believe how bad the US Airways planes smell that US uses on their BOS/DCA shuttle!)

It has been canceled in W12 for fleet refitting, it will probably be reinstated in S12.

By W12 raistlin meant W11/12 ie. from now until end of March. The BOS-FCO flight is in fact only stopped from mid-January to mid-February however, the fully seasonal flights being ORD and LAX only, and they are also confirmed to start up again from April.
As for W12/13, it is still far too early for the AZ timetables to be confirmed, as we are still waiting for the final updates to the S12 season, so I would be surprised if any flight is on sale yet for November onwards. Try again around mid-February.

Sorry, I meant W11 (the current winter season) and S12 (next summer). No clue of course about W12, except that by then fleet renewal will be complete for the old fleet.

I tried a booking on the AZ website and there was no Classica Plus to be selected. I guess the BOS-FCO flight I am looking at still is the old A330.
