We're visiting Brazil later this and flying into IGU, but staying on the Argentinian side. Someone has suggested renting a car. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it worth hiring a car - and will they let us take it across the border into Argentina? And what's it like to drive in Iguazu?
Thanks

Since taxis are fairly cheap on both sides of the border, I would not suggest that you rent a car.

On the Argentinian side, there is really no place to go except into Puerto Iguazu. For that you could take a taxi (very cheap as mentioned before) or take the bus from in front of the Sheraton (even cheaper).
We took a taxi back one evening from dinner in Puerto Iguazu. Seeing that it was all jungle, we asked our driver if he had ever seen any animals in this area. He mentioned that once he saw a jaguar.

Thanks for your replies. We're staying at the Loi, but I guess that for the money I'd pay for a car rental I can get a lot of taxis.

Correct.
Auto rental on the Brasil side = R$ 80-120. per day, depending on vehicle choice.
If you were in a large city, perhaps. But not here as mentioned above.
Spend your time seeing and photographing the very unique falls, including by boat.
Take a jacket & umbrella. Save your money for eating out. Just back, and you'll need it.
