Finnair Plus - Why is 319 2x3 in J and 320/321 2x2?

From what I've read on this site, it seems the A319 has more pitch, but why do they make it 2 x3 and the 320/312 2 x 2.
Am I correct that the 320/321 seat is the same as Y with the B and E seat not sold and no additional width nor a mini table coming down in the middle?
What about the 319? Is there extra wide in all the seats or just the A/B or none at all?
Thanks!
AY 319īs do have proper seats with cushions and adjustable headrests for the time being. A,B,C are convertible in front rows of the plane. Some mention that in J D,E,F are all sold and E is not left empty. I have not flown in J in 319, so I can not confirm this. There have been rumours about "refurbishment" in the near future, see below...
AY 320īs and 321īs have Y-style slimline Recaro-seats in the entire plane. In J the middle seats are left empty.
Beware that there are lots of AY E70īs and E90īs around, some of them have J section and even more cramped spaces ;).

Yes. Finnair is about to destroy their only decent shorthaul business product on the 319 shortly. It will be densely placed LCC seats in 3-3 rows all the way.
Now that KLM has abandoned Europe Select could Finnair be on their way from best to worst in the European business class league?

Finnair is pretty close to it. Some years ago they abandoned warm towels and recently even starters in short-haul European business class flights (my recent flights from BER, CPH and DUS).
These are hard times for airline industry. I cannot understand why AY is now downgrading its J product.

Justinus, I also fly DUS/TXL - Asia and vice versa on AY fairly often. So far have not missed hot towels and appetizers ever, nor have family members I have upgraded on these routes.
Please post disappointing service experiences on this forum, maybe some of the forum participants might even be able to forward those to decision makers at AY.
Soft product letdowns are really not the norm on Finnair SH, according to my limited experience. And should not be tolerated even a single time.

When did you fly for the last time? My wife flew from DUS last week and she didn't have either. I flew from BER and I most certainly did not have hot towels or appetizers. We met in HEL. :p

I flew VNO-HEL today in J on E170.
We had a hot meal (very tasty) with a chocolate dessert and bread from a basket but not appetizer or salad and no hot towel. I don't know if that is even normally on the tray though for a 1 hour 15 minute flight which is actually only 1 hour in the air.
I do have to say the beef with ginger and steamed rice was very flavorful and quite tender.

Several times this year from and to DUS and my better half has taken AY biz class feeders to Asia from and to TXL also more than once in 2011. We both got the "full monty" on each of those flights. ;)

From TXL the appetizer is normally a salad followed by hot main course, from DUS you should get a cold "gourmet" hors d'ouvre. The TXL biz meal was actually increased from what it was before as customers wanted to have a hot dish included. Other routes under two hours do not get a three course lunch/dinner like TXL does.

This is indeed what you get when flying J from TXL. What mosburger tells is what it used to be, at least until some weeks ago. Sorry, mosburger, but I do fly these legs.

A recent experience on TXL - HEL in biz.
- Pre-departure drink offered (water or juice)
- Jackets and garment bag taken pro-actively
- No hot towels
- No menu
- No drinks round before meal
- Individual tray service for meal and drinks
- No starter, just hot meal and dessert plus bread assortment
- Very attentive service during meal and drink service
Btw, the BA lounge at TXL is still a really lovely place...

On over 25 flight from BER - HEL in C in the past 24 month, I twice get a pre-depature drink (that was when the take off was delayed) I never got hot towels on those flights.
The BA lounge in TXL is nothing to die for - I m looking forward to new lounges at BBI.

Strange, I have flown many times during this year TXL-HEL and I have never been offered any pre-departure drinks. The rest corresponds with my experience. Last time I took the KF flight in J and they did have a drinks round before meal. The present AY J meal is more a less what it used to be in Y only a couple of years ago. :td:
The BA lounge at TXL is excellent. The only problems are the lack of restrooms and the fact that the lounge is situated at the landside before security control.

I was on an Airbus 320 and had a long chat with the purser. I do recall something about a special easy-to-access storage space for water etc. on that plane that might not exist on the 319 or Embraers.

But the way to the rest rooms downstairs is still shorter as within some larger lounges. ;) And it really only takes a few minutes through the fast track security lane to the AY gate as you know better than myself.
One big plus I forgot to mention, they finally have three AY check-in counters at TXL. One for business/status pax, baggage drop and then economy.

Fast track security:confused: I never witnessed that in Berlin. And the business check-in is sort of worthless since itīs always used by Y pax, so I always have discussion with people when I go to the front of the line. But no wonder that they use it also for Y since most of the time only four to six people fly J on the TXL-HEl route.

They had it this time for the AY gate area (is that D?)

Yes, when it was two counters only I had the same expericen quite a few times. Now it was far better with three. But please do remember that a lot of AY and OW "elites" fly this route also and are entitled to biz check-in.

I never saw a fast track line in TXL, and I m going to Hel once a month. Most of the time asian travelgroups useing the C counter and I doubt that they have any status. Every time I asked the people in front of me they neither have any status nor a J ticket - it s the counter people who want to save time.

There was no line at the biz check-in this time. I guess they take people out from the two economy lines if no biz/statuts pax are waiting but otherwise seem to keep it restricted.
