I have read the threads here (there are very few) but has anybody been to North Dakota lately? If so, where did you go and what would you recommend? Thanks!

I guess it depends on what you like city or country. Fargo is a nice quirky town in many ways they just had a zombie pub crawl this weekend which seemed interesting. People are very friendly and during the summer there is daylight past 9 pm. I hear the hotel donaldson (hodo) downtown is real nice and there are quite a few nice restaurants and bars in walking distance. If you like outdoors stuff I would say medora and the theodore roosevelt national park would be the places to check out. jneugeba May 15, 11, 9:52 pm Things really haven't changed all that much since this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/west/943166-what-do-north-dakota.html A couple of my favorites are: - Hjemkomst Center - Peace Gardens (up north, you don't say where exactly you will be) - There is a really neat little museum in Hatton dedicated to Carl Ben Eielson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Ben_Eielson). CMK10 May 16, 11, 2:26 pm Last year I took the Empire Builder across North Dakota and saw the towns of Williston and Minot during the day. It looked like very pretty country and I'd be glad to go back. Doc Savage May 16, 11, 2:38 pm The badlands are beautiful to hike through. http://www.realnd.com/badlandsindex.htm http://www.destination360.com/north-america/us/north-dakota/images/s/badlands.jpg Enjoy the very long pleasant evenings around a campfire. It doesn't get dark till close to 10pm. darthbimmer May 19, 11, 6:02 pm I have read the threads here (there are very few) but has anybody been to North Dakota lately? If so, where did you go and what would you recommend? Thanks! Last summer I made a side-trip into ND while visiting the Black Hills area of South Dakota. I went to see Teddy Roosevelt National Park. I was unimpressed. Probably the least interesting place with the designation of "National Park" I've visited. If I could send advice back in time to my historical self, I'd encourage me to skip ND and spend an extra two days in the Black Hills. |
