Mr. Megatop and I are going to Malaysia the week after next. We'll have one night in KL (been there before, four years ago), then four days and nights in Langkawi.
Do any G FTers have suggestions for G things to do in either destination?
Last time, our adorable room attendant suggested Friday dinner at Frangiapani. The food was pretty good and the decor and vibe were cool. It wasn't until the evening got on that we realized it was a gathering spot for Malaysian Men Who Like Showtunes. Keen eye on that room attendant.
Is Frangiapani still a spot worth popping in to? By chance, we'll be in KL on a Friday.

KUL/PEN. The Gay Scene in Malaysia is limited to the major cities.
LGK is a beach town, that is kind of spread out. If you are looking for beach-town gay, I suggest heading to HKT.
Megatoplover, if you're budget permits, take the bf/partner to The Datai, run by the GHM Hotels chain (http://www.ghmhotels.com/)
One of my favorite places on earth.
Memories to last a lifetime. I used to go there as a teenager, then in my 20s, never gets tired. With family, friends and lovers.
The resort has been around since the 90s, but lovingly restored by Jaya Ibrahim (http://www.jayainternational.com/), (one of my favorite interior designers), who did most of the GHM Hotels and a few Aman properties in Asia, the Indonesia Presidential Palace, various Malaysian royalty homes, as well as The Setai in Miami.
The service at The Datai follows the same philosophy. (similar to other GHM Hotels)
The 4S shares the same beach, next door to The Datai.
But the The Datai was there first, on the cove, and (I'm biased) is a lot nicer.

There is nothing much in Langkawi except beaches. Just do what the local do
Get up, eat, morning snooze, eat, afternoon siesta, walking on the beach, showerr, change, eat, sleep off that dinner!
Honestly, despite the various resort hotels, Langkawi has still a small village mentality where everyone knows everyone's business so there is not going to be anything going on that do not reflect traditional values.
The Datai and 4S are extremely lovely but is miles from the inhabited areas so getting around is not easy.
You are not going to have time to do much in KL.

Argree with previous posters comments.
You might want to consider renting a car, unless you don't mind being confined to one area. At the cove where The Datai at 4S is located, both hotels charge rather high prices for food, given that you are essentially "trapped"
As I said, LGK is very spread out. However, just like Bali, LGK has its own version of "nusa dua", where all the resorts are clustered together.
Nothing outwardly gay in Langkawi, as I said you'd better head to Phuket or Bali (Seminyak), if you are looking for that.
