Flying into SFO on WN, out on UA. Will this absolutely require security exit and re-entry at each terminal, or is there a way to do it via walking, or people mover, without exiting security? It has been years since I did this and would appreciate the info.

Thanks.

You have to go through security again. The airport is basically a loop, and you can walk in either direction to get between WN (1) and UA (3), but it is probably a bit quicker to make a right when you get landside, walk through T2 and over to T3. If you have a bit of extra time, going the other way (through the departures level of the int'l terminal) is a really nice structure.

Agree with the above two posters, you get the joy of re-clearing security.

In fact, the quickest way to walk between the two terminals is to go down to the parking structure and go across.

By the time you get up to the airtrain, take it, go back down, etc., you could have walked (IMnshO). :p

The OP is no doubt using WN's famous Elite Status Interlining Concierge Service. Silly you. It even comes with a special transfer service for the kids.

I would also recommend going thru the parking garage. From WN, use the air bridge to get to the top deck of the parking garage, and walk across. You'll be able to walk straight into the terminal on the UA side from the top level of the parking garage. If you don't have to recheck bags, consider walking around thru the Int'l terminal, as that will allow you to clear security there on the G side (there's usually no line) and go into T3 from there.

For those to whom this matters:

International security G has (and often uses) nude-o-scopes while UA domestic elite security doesn't have them, or at least didn't the last time I went through.
